A line of storms is making its way toward the Gulf Coast, with rain showers evident near Houston and scattered thunderstorms in the New Orleans area. Light rain is advancing from the Gulf into Southern Alabama, approaching Montgomery. Off the Atlantic coast, clouds and scattered showers are forming near Savannah and Jacksonville, moving northeast. Much of the southeastern interior, including cities like Atlanta and Charlotte, currently enjoys clear, calm conditions with no significant precipitation.
Afternoon temperatures in Atlanta will hit a high of 91 degrees by 6 PM with mostly sunny skies. Winds from the east-northeast at 8 miles per hour bring a bit of relief in the heat. The atmosphere remains partly cloudy at 4 PM and 8 PM, providing some intermittent shade.
Today in the Southeast, we’re seeing some warm temperatures. Shreveport is hitting a high of 95 degrees, while Jackson and Montgomery are both at 94 degrees. New Orleans isn’t far behind with a high of 92 degrees. Over in Atlanta, it’s a warm day too, reaching 91 degrees. Coastal cities are a bit cooler, with Jacksonville at 86 degrees and Savannah at 87, providing some relief from the heat.
Tonight, low temperatures across the Southeast will remain relatively mild. Expect 72 degrees in Montgomery and Jackson, while Atlanta will cool down to 72 as well. Shreveport drops to 76 degrees, and Memphis is forecasted for a low of 75. Coastal areas like Jacksonville and Savannah will see lows around 76 degrees.
Tomorrow in the Southeast, we’re seeing some hot conditions. Atlanta is expected to reach a high of 93 degrees, while Montgomery will be even warmer at 95. Jackson is forecasted to hit 94 degrees, and Memphis will see highs around 93. Houston will be slightly cooler at 92, maintaining above-average temperatures across the region.
A disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to bring widespread rain and thunderstorms to the Southeast. The heaviest precipitation is likely along the Gulf Coast from New Orleans to Tallahassee, with possible severe storms in the vicinity of Jackson and Montgomery. Flash flooding could be a concern in low-lying areas throughout Mississippi and Alabama. In contrast, drier conditions will prevail to the north, around Memphis and Atlanta, with only isolated showers expected. Temperatures will remain warm, with humid conditions persisting across the region.
The UV index in Atlanta this weekend reaches an extreme value of 11 both Saturday and Sunday, with a rapid burn time of about 11 minutes in direct sunlight.
