As we step into July 2025, the weather in Atlanta and across the Southeast holds some surprises and challenges. This month features a range from partly cloudy skies to potential severe weather episodes including thunderstorms and intense heat. The temperatures are set to rise, with some days reaching the high nineties. A cold front approaching will bring relief but also significant storm activity, likely to lead to flash floods. Stay tuned to our updates and ensure you’re prepared with all necessary precautions!
A cluster of storms is concentrated over the Gulf of Mexico near New Orleans, moving toward the east with potential impacts along the Gulf Coast, including Mobile and Pensacola. Scattered showers are reaching inland over Jacksonville and extending towards the Savannah area. The rest of the Southeast, including cities like Atlanta and Charlotte, remains dry with clear skies, albeit cloudy conditions may be increasing in some eastern parts. Gulf Coast showers persist in proximity to Houston, keeping coastal areas damp, but away from the immediate path of severe weather.
This evening in Atlanta, expect partly cloudy skies initially, transitioning to mostly clear conditions by midnight. Temperatures will gradually decrease from 82 degrees at 9 PM to 77 degrees by 1 AM. A light easterly breeze will continue throughout the evening, bringing a gentle, calming atmosphere to your night.
Tonight in Memphis, expect a low of 75 degrees. Atlanta will see temperatures drop to 73, while Montgomery cools down to 74. In Jacksonville, temperatures will reach about 77 degrees. New Orleans is anticipated to be a bit warmer with a low of 79 degrees.
Tomorrow in the Southeast, temperatures soar with Shreveport leading the pack at a blistering 100 degrees. Houston will reach a notable 98 degrees, while Jackson sees highs around 95. Further east, Atlanta will hit 90, and Jacksonville is close behind at 91. Coastal regions like New Orleans will be a bit cooler at 87, but still above average for this time of year. Expect a hot and humid day across the region, influenced by a strong ridge of high pressure keeping the heat locked in.
A cold front is set to push through the Southeast tomorrow, with storms expected across areas including Jackson, Montgomery, and Atlanta by morning. Expect intense thunderstorms over New Orleans by midday, potentially leading to heavy rainfall and localized flooding through the region. Jacksonville and Savannah will see showers and storms arriving during the evening, continuing into the night. While severe weather is possible, particularly damaging winds, the most prominent threat is flash flooding with the front’s passage. Temperatures will drop post-front, providing cooler conditions for the latter part of the week.
Atlanta’s UV index surges to a high of 9 on Wednesday, with a burn time of approximately 15 minutes, so take extra precautions under cloudier skies. By Thursday, the UV index peaks at a very high 10, reducing burn time to just 12 minutes as the sun shines brightly. Enjoy your day, but do protect yourself with sunscreen and a hat!
