The Southwest region’s radar shows rain moving in from the Pacific northwest, bringing showers to Redding and surrounding areas. Reno is experiencing some light rain as the system pushes southeast. Ely and the areas in eastern Nevada see a mix of rain and snow, hinting at changing conditions as temperatures drop. While Flagstaff is currently dry, clouds indicate potential precipitation moving in later. Southern cities like Las Vegas, Phoenix, and San Diego remain clear for now, enjoying a respite from the stormy weather.
For this evening in Salt Lake City, temperatures begin at 83 degrees at 9 PM, and cool to 67 degrees by 1 AM. Expect mostly clear skies with a steady wind from the south-southwest at 24 miles per hour, decreasing slightly as the night progresses. Winds will shift to a southerly direction at 21 miles per hour by 11 PM, before settling to 14 miles per hour by early morning. Clear conditions are set to continue overnight.
Tonight Flagstaff will dip to 34 degrees, while Ely is expecting a much cooler 26 degrees. Las Vegas will see a low of 61, but temperatures in Cedar City will drop to 37. San Diego is set for a mild night at 55 degrees. Notably, a significant temperature drop is forecasted for Reno, where temperatures will reach 38 degrees.
High temperatures are not as extreme tomorrow. Phoenix will see a scorching high of 90 degrees, while Las Vegas warms up to 78 degrees. In California, Los Angeles will reach 68 degrees, and Bakersfield will see a high of 73. Fresno will enjoy a warm 72 degrees, with San Diego slightly cooler at 65.
A developing weather pattern will bring increased precipitation to the Southwest, beginning Tuesday. Expect rain showers to sweep from Northern California towards Arizona, with moderate to heavy rainfall in the San Bernardino Valley. Cold air from the north is colliding with moist air from the Pacific, leading to potential thunderstorms in the region. Temperatures in Southern California and Arizona will notably cool, with daytime highs dropping by around 10 degrees. Watch for slick roads and lower visibility especially across mountain passes as rain persists through Wednesday.
The UV index in Salt Lake City is high at 8 today, with a burn time of just 17 minutes under direct sunlight. For tomorrow, expect a moderate UV index of 6, with a burn time of 23 minutes. If storms roll in, they’ll provide a natural shield, reducing direct sun exposure.
For the 7-day forecast in Salt Lake City: Monday: Mostly clear and a bit windy, with a high of 87 degrees and a low of 51. Tuesday: Showers develop later in the day; expect a high of 55 degrees and a low of 43. Wednesday: Partly cloudy skies with temperatures reaching a high of 57 degrees and a low of 44.
