The Northeast is bracing for a push of active weather as a formidable line of storms moves across from the Great Lakes towards western New York. Buffalo is in the path of the most intense activity, with these storms marching eastward, bringing strong rainfall and possible severe weather conditions. Areas like Syracuse and Albany can prepare for these storms as they move closer throughout the day. New York City and Boston remain clear for now, enjoying a break from precipitation, but should stay alert for changes. Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. are also experiencing fair weather conditions, away from the immediate impact of this storm system.
Temperatures in New York City through the afternoon are hovering in the low 70s, with a high of 71 degrees by 4 PM. Winds from the south-southeast at 6 miles per hour will shift to the southeast by 6 PM, reducing to 5 miles per hour. Expect mostly cloudy skies throughout the afternoon, transitioning to cloudier conditions by 8 PM.
Today’s temperatures across the Northeast show a warm and varied pattern. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are both reaching a high of 80 degrees, making it a pleasant day for outdoor activities. New York City is slightly cooler at 71 degrees, while Scranton warms up to 78 degrees. Heading north, Albany hits 82 degrees, but in contrast, Portland is on the cooler side with a high of just 65 degrees. Boston is also mild today, expected to reach 75 degrees, providing a comfortable afternoon.
Tonight Philadelphia is dips to a mild 62 degrees. Scranton will cool slightly more to about 54 degrees. Buffalo and Syracuse are both forecasted to dip to 53 degrees. Portland is set for a low of 52 degrees, signaling a pleasant evening across the area.
High temperatures in Philadelphia tomorrow could see temperatures soar to 86. Scranton is forecast to reach 79 degrees, and Pittsburgh is likely to hit 75. Boston will be milder at 71 degrees, but still warm compared to typical mid-May temperatures. A mix of sun and clouds will prevail, contributing to these unseasonably high readings.
A cold front moving through the Northeast will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Boston and Albany can expect rain early, while New York City and Philadelphia may see storms later in the afternoon. Temperatures will be cooler behind the front, with highs in the mid-60s. Gusty winds are possible, especially along the coast. Keep an eye on the skies, particularly during commute hours, as conditions could change rapidly.
The UV index in New York City will be moderate at 5 on Friday, with a burn time of about 27 minutes under sunny skies. On Saturday, the UV index increases to a high of 8, with exposure leading to burns in just 17 minutes, so sunscreen and hats are a must! Keep an eye out for cloud cover or afternoon showers on Saturday which could reduce UV exposure temporarily.
