The Southwest is experiencing a variety of weather conditions today. Rain showers are making their way through Fresno and Bakersfield, providing some welcome relief to the usually dry Central Valley. Up north, Redding is seeing a mix of rain and some snow in the higher terrain, perfect for those ready to hit the slopes. Las Vegas remains dry and clear, without a hint of precipitation in sight. Flagstaff is expecting snow in higher elevations, while areas like San Diego are enjoying clear skies and comfortable weather.
This evening in Salt Lake City, temperatures start at 79 degrees at 9 PM, dropping to 67 degrees by 1 AM. Expect mostly cloudy skies initially, clearing up gradually through the night. Winds from the north-northwest will be light at 8 miles per hour, calming slightly to 5 miles per hour by early morning.
Tonight, temperatures in the Southwest will drop significantly. Flagstaff will see a low of 41 degrees, while Ely will be even cooler at 42. Las Vegas is expected to cool off to 71 degrees, a noticeable drop. Phoenix will remain warmer at 73 degrees. Bakersfield rounds out the evening with a low of 59 degrees.
High temperatures in the Southwest are expected to soar above average tomorrow. Phoenix will hit a scorching 104 degrees, while Las Vegas is set to reach an impressive 99 degrees. Los Angeles will enjoy a more moderate high of 74 degrees, and Bakersfield sees a warm 88 degrees. Farther north, San Francisco will cool off at 61 degrees, contrasting sharply with the inland heat.
A cold front is pushing through the Southwest, bringing scattered thunderstorms to eastern Arizona and New Mexico late tomorrow afternoon. The primary concerns are gusty winds and hail with these storms. Expect temperatures to drop slightly overnight but remain well above seasonal averages during the day, peaking in the upper 80s to low 90s. In southern California, a persistent marine layer will keep coastal areas cloudy with cooler temperatures into Wednesday.
Salt Lake City will experience a very high UV index of 8 on Thursday and Friday, with a burn time of just 17 minutes in direct sunlight.
