Expect a detailed tour through regional weather conditions, from the sunny streets of LA to the snowy peaks near Reno. We dive into temperature trends and upcoming changes including the potential for severe thunderstorms and a low-pressure system moving in.
The regional radar shows clear skies dominating much of the Southwest. In the Sierra Nevada, snow is falling in the higher elevations near Reno and Ely, indicating wintry conditions. As we move south to Fresno and Bakersfield, conditions remain dry with minimal cloud cover. San Diego and Los Angeles enjoy sunshine, while San Francisco and the surrounding coastal areas remain rain-free. Flagstaff is experiencing some cloud cover, but no precipitation is reported at this time.
This afternoon in Los Angeles, temperatures will remain steady around 70 degrees with mostly sunny skies. Expect a gentle breeze from the south-southwest at 7 to 9 miles per hour. By 8 PM, the temperature will slightly dip to 68 degrees, continuing with clear conditions.
Today Phoenix is leading the pack with a blistering high of 102 degrees, while Las Vegas isn’t far behind at 99 degrees. Bakersfield and Fresno both reach a hot 93 degrees, providing a sweltering day in Central California. San Diego remains cooler at 68 degrees, benefiting from coastal influences. Up north, San Francisco sees a much milder high of just 62 degrees, showcasing a stark contrast within the region. Overall, expect a mix of hot and comfortable conditions across this vibrant area.
Tonight Ely dips down to a brisk 47. Expect 55 degrees in Cedar City, with Las Vegas holding at a milder 75. Bakersfield will cool down to 66 degrees, and Los Angeles is expected to experience a low of 60. San Diego also remains warmer at 60 degrees as we head into the night.
Expect high temperatures in the Southwest region to surge above average tomorrow. Las Vegas and Phoenix will hit a scorching 100 degrees. Bakersfield and Fresno are also warm, reaching 93 degrees, while Los Angeles will be milder at 76 degrees. San Diego can anticipate a comfortable high of 71 degrees.
A low-pressure system is pushing into the Southwest, bringing increased cloud cover and isolated showers from Arizona to New Mexico by early Wednesday. Over the next 24 to 48 hours, expect temperatures to dip as the system advances, with highs in the mid-70s in most regions. There’s a potential for severe thunderstorms in southeastern areas, particularly New Mexico, where gusty winds and brief downpours might impact travel. By Thursday, conditions should clear, giving way to a warming trend into the weekend.
The UV index in Los Angeles is at 6 on Wednesday, which means moderate sun exposure risk with a burn time of approximately 23 minutes in direct sunlight. Thursday’s UV index rises sharply to 10, indicating very high risk and a burn time of only about 12 minutes.
