Heavy showers are affecting areas east of Las Vegas and stretching into northern Arizona, including Flagstaff. The central and southern portions of Utah near Cedar City are experiencing light rain, while the Sierra Nevada near Reno remains mostly dry. Clouds and rain are moving eastward from the California coastline, bringing needed precipitation to areas like Fresno and Bakersfield. Clear skies extend over the coastal cities, including Los Angeles and San Francisco, with dry conditions persisting. Temperatures in Salt Lake City this afternoon will rise, starting at 77 degrees and reaching 80 by 8 PM. A northwest wind will remain steady around 11 miles per hour, easing slightly to 10 miles per hour later. Today Las Vegas is warming up to 95 degrees, while Phoenix is slightly cooler at 90 degrees. Over in California, Bakersfield is expecting a hot 96 degrees, and Fresno will see a high of 94. Coastal areas remain more mild, with Los Angeles hitting 74 and San Diego at 73 degrees. Flagstaff stands out with a much cooler 63 degrees, reflecting its higher elevation. Tonight Las Vegas will see a low of 51 degrees, while Flagstaff cools down to 47. Los Angeles is not immune to the drop, forecasted at 60 degrees. In the northern regions, Cedar City will hit around 53. Expect a milder 61 in San Diego. High temperatures in the Southwest tomorrow will be significantly above average. Redding will soar to a scorching 101 degrees, while Reno warms up to 88. Fresno is expected to reach 92 degrees, and Bakersfield will see a high of 91 degrees. Las Vegas and Phoenix are both looking at warm afternoons with highs around 96. Coastal areas like San Diego will remain more moderate at 71 degrees. A wave of showers and thunderstorms is set to impact areas from Arizona through New Mexico on Tuesday, with potential for locally heavy rainfall. A cold front moving southeast will drive these systems, bringing a risk of strong winds and isolated thunderstorms. While desert areas will experience brief relief from dry conditions, vigilance is required for possible flash flooding in susceptible areas. Temperatures will see a dip in the wake of the storms, especially from Phoenix to Albuquerque, with cooler, drier air settling in by Wednesday evening. The UV index in Salt Lake City is very high at 9 for both Monday and Tuesday, indicating a burn time of about 15 minutes in direct sunlight.
