The Southeast region is currently under a tranquil radar picture, but this might soon change. A band of rain is moving towards the eastern coast of Florida, affecting areas near Miami and creeping north toward Jacksonville. Rain is also moving ashore from the Gulf of Mexico towards Louisiana, with Shreveport seeing some activity. The central part of the region, including major cities like Atlanta and Charlotte, remains clear for now. The far west is on alert as isolated storms advancing towards western Texas could impact areas like Houston.
Afternoon temperatures in Miami are expected to be in the upper 70s, peaking at 78 degrees by 4 PM with a south-southeast wind around 13 miles per hour. Rain showers are possible during the afternoon, transitioning to cloud cover by 6 PM as temperatures slightly dip to 77 degrees. By 8 PM, there is the potential for thunderstorms, with winds easing to 10 miles per hour as temperatures hold steady.
Today in New Orleans, expect a high of 86 degrees, while Jackson will see similar warmth at 89 degrees. Shreveport is slightly hotter with a high of 91. Heading east, Atlanta reaches 86, and Montgomery also hits 89 degrees. Farther south, Tampa enjoys a high of 87, but Miami will feel a bit cooler at 81 degrees with all that cloud cover.
The Southeast will experience mild overnight lows with temperatures remaining above average for early June. Expect to see lows of 71 degrees in Memphis and Jackson, while Nashville will cool down to 71 as well. Montgomery will stay slightly cooler at 69 degrees. Atlanta will have a low of 66 degrees, and further south, Tampa will see a comfortable 74. Miami rounds out the region with a warmer low of 81 degrees.
Tomorrow Jackson and Shreveport are expected to reach a sizzling 91 degrees, while Houston also joins the heat at 90 degrees. Cooler spots include Atlanta and Jacksonville with highs in the low 80s.
A robust weather system is heading across the Southeast, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms. Expect the heaviest rain and potential severe storms moving into the region from western Louisiana to Alabama late tonight and continuing into tomorrow. Atlanta and surrounding areas should prepare for strong wind gusts and possible localized flooding. Daytime highs will drop slightly but remain in the warm range. Thursday will see clearing conditions as the system departs, setting the stage for a dry and sunny end to the week.
Miami’s UV index for today, Tuesday, is moderate at 5, with potential burn time in about 27 minutes of direct sunlight. As you head into Wednesday, boost your sun protection efforts as the UV index increases to 6, reducing burn time to just 23 minutes.
