Hello, weather enthusiasts! This week in Salt Lake City and across the Southwest, we’re experiencing a range of weather conditions. In Salt Lake City, enjoy mostly sunny skies with temperatures around 80°F, perfect for any outdoor activity. However, keep an eye out for a cold front that might bring scattered showers and possible thunderstorms to northern California and parts of Nevada. Plus, don’t miss the temperature spike in Phoenix, reaching the low 100s. On the Regional Radar for the Southwest, light showers can be spotted around Redding and moving southeast towards Fresno. Around Ely, there are scattered showers but Las Vegas and Los Angeles are currently under clear skies, offering a break from precipitation. Phoenix and Flagstaff remain dry.
Afternoon temperatures in Salt Lake City will rise to 80 degrees, under clear and sunny skies. Expect a gentle north-northwest breeze around 9 to 10 mph throughout the afternoon.
In the Southwest today, we’re seeing some significant temperature variation. Phoenix is sizzling with a high of 103 degrees, while Las Vegas warms up to a comfortable 95. Farther west, Bakersfield is heating up at 97 degrees, contrasted by cooler coastal temps with San Diego at 69 and Los Angeles at 71. Flagstaff enjoys a mild afternoon with a high of 78. Redding feels the heat, reaching 101 degrees.
Tonight in the Southwest region, Flagstaff will dip to a chilly 49 degrees. Expect 46 degrees in Ely, marking one of the lowest temperatures in the area. Las Vegas will stay warm at 77 degrees, while Phoenix also remains at 77. San Francisco cools down to 54 degrees.
Tomorrow in Phoenix, expect a scorching high of 105 degrees, which is notably above average for this time of year. Las Vegas will also feel the heat with a high of 102 degrees. In Bakersfield, temperatures reach 100 degrees, while Fresno is just a notch below at 99 degrees. San Diego remains cooler at 72 degrees, providing some relief along the coast. San Francisco will see a high of 67 degrees, making it the coolest spot in the region.
In the Southwest tomorrow, expect mostly clear and sunny skies dominating the region, providing a warm start to the day. However, keep an eye on a developing cold front set to impact the northern parts, bringing scattered showers and potentially some thunderstorms by late afternoon, particularly in northern California and parts of Nevada. Temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 80s, but cooler conditions are expected behind the front. Minimal severe weather is anticipated, though gusty winds may accompany the frontal passage. The trend will clear out by the evening as the front exits the region, setting the stage for a cooler and drier weekend ahead.
Salt Lake City faces a very high UV index of 9 both Friday and Saturday, suggesting a burn time of just 15 minutes under direct sunlight.
