This mid-June brings a mixed bag of weather across the Southwest. Salt Lake City enjoys moderate temperatures while Phoenix heats up significantly. San Diego remains mild and pleasant. Over in Northern California, Redding is experiencing rain, bringing a refreshing break to the earlier dry spell. Meanwhile, lighter rain showers are visible near Reno, with the potential for more to develop as the system moves northeast. Salt Lake City stays mostly dry with a few clouds, while areas like Flagstaff and Phoenix remain clear and dry.
Afternoon temperatures in Salt Lake City will reach 94 degrees by 6 PM, so it’s a warm one! Expect abundant sunshine with a shift to partly cloudy skies as the afternoon progresses. Winds will be from the southwest at 11 miles per hour, providing a slight breeze. By 8 PM, temperatures will slightly cool to 93 degrees under mostly sunny skies with winds turning west-northwest at 9 miles per hour.
In the Southwest today, we’re seeing some very warm temperatures. Phoenix is sizzling with a high of 107 degrees, while Las Vegas also cranks up the heat to 105. Bakersfield isn’t far behind, hitting 96 degrees. Cooler spots include Flagstaff at 83 and San Diego, which will see a milder high of 72.
Tonight, low temperatures will vary across the Southwest, with Las Vegas dipping to a mild 80 degrees. Flagstaff will experience a chillier night, with lows around 49 degrees. Bakersfield is expected to see a low of 66 degrees, while Los Angeles will cool down to 58. Temperatures will drop to 52 degrees in San Francisco.
Tomorrow in Phoenix, expect a scorching high of 110 degrees, which is well above average for this time of year. Las Vegas will also sizzle with a high of 108 degrees. In Bakersfield, temperatures soar to 97 degrees, while Fresno reaches a warm 96 degrees. Los Angeles sees a milder high at 80 degrees, but still on the warmer side of seasonal norms.
A high-pressure system will keep the desert southwest mostly sunny and dry over the next 24 hours. Coastal Southern California will see a shift, with increasing clouds leading to scattered showers late in the day. Expect heavier rainfall in the San Bernardino and Los Angeles areas tomorrow afternoon, leading to potentially slick driving conditions on mountain passes. No significant temperature swings are anticipated, with high 80s common across desert areas. For those near the coast, temperatures will remain in the upper 60s to low 70s.
