Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and Bowling Green are experiencing light rain, while the rain showers are more concentrated around these cities. Columbus and Charleston find themselves under cloud cover, with rain expected to continue through the day. On the northern edge, cool, cloudy skies hold over Saginaw and Detroit, keeping the conditions mild but dry for now.
For Chicago this afternoon, temperatures will hover in the mid-70s, reaching up to 75 degrees by 4 PM. Expect partly cloudy skies with a gentle breeze from the northeast at 9 to 10 miles per hour. By 8 PM, temperatures will dip slightly to 71 degrees while the partly cloudy conditions continue.
Today’s regional high temperatures in the Midwest are on the warmer side. Kansas City heats up to 87 degrees, while Peoria follows closely at 86. Indianapolis and Fort Wayne both reach 80, creating a comfortable day for outdoor plans. Farther north in Chicago, we see a cool high of 77. In contrast, Cleveland remains on the chillier side at just 71 degrees, highlighting a notable temperature gradient across the region.
Tonight, lows across the Midwest will remain unseasonably warm. Expect 67 degrees in Chicago, 70 in Peoria, and 71 in Kansas City. Indianapolis and Fort Wayne will cool to 66 and 68 degrees, respectively. Meanwhile, Columbus will also see a mild low of 69 degrees.
Tomorrow, Kansas City is set to reach a sizzling 91 degrees, while St. Louis and Louisville will hover around a warm 83 degrees. Peoria can expect a high of 87 degrees, keeping it well above average for mid-June. Chicago will see pleasant conditions with a high of 81 degrees. Notably, Springfield will hit 86 degrees.
A cold front is set to sweep across the Midwest, primarily impacting areas from Des Moines to Cleveland. Thunderstorms are likely, particularly in the afternoon, with potential for heavy rain and gusty winds. Columbus and Indianapolis should prepare for isolated severe storms into the evening. The temperature will drop by at least 5 degrees following the frontal passage. Expect a clearer, cooler day on Thursday as conditions improve.
The UV index in Chicago will be very high on Sunday, reaching a value of 8, with a burn time of about 17 minutes if you’re in direct sunlight. By Monday, it will increase further to 9, decreasing the burn time to just 15 minutes in the sun.
