We’re watching a significant rain system impact Texas, moving eastward, and potentially affecting Atlanta with showers and thunderstorms. On the Regional Radar, a significant rain system is impacting Texas, with showers and storms stretching from Houston to New Orleans. The leading edge of this precipitation is advancing eastward towards Mississippi, with Jackson encountering lighter rain showers. A distinct area of rain is developing over the Carolinas, particularly affecting Charlotte, where heavier showers can be seen. The Gulf Coast from Mobile to Savannah remains largely dry, with some cloud cover beginning to nudge in from the west. The rest of the Southeast, including Atlanta and Memphis, is currently clear, allowing those areas a respite from wetter conditions.
Temperatures in Atlanta this afternoon reach up to 80 degrees with mostly cloudy skies. Winds are coming from the northwest at approximately 8 miles per hour. By 6 PM, expect the temperature to slightly dip to 79 degrees as cloud cover increases. The evening brings a cooler 75 degrees by 8 PM, with calmer winds at 6 miles per hour under cloudy skies.
