The Midwest is experiencing widespread precipitation on the radar today. A sizable area of rain is sweeping across the region, particularly affecting cities such as Indianapolis, Louisville, and Peoria, where rain is steady and will continue into the afternoon. Moving farther north, Detroit and Cleveland are also seeing light rain, with cloud cover extending toward Fort Wayne. Meanwhile, Wichita and Springfield are experiencing lighter rain, with a break in the showers forecasted later in the day.
For this evening in Chicago, temperatures are set to decrease slightly from 61 degrees at 8 PM to 59 degrees by midnight. Cloud cover persists throughout the evening, with southerly winds around 8 mph diminishing slightly to 7 mph. Expect a few showers as the night progresses, delivering a damp touch to the late evening hours.
Tonight Peoria cools down to 37. In Kansas City, expect temperatures to fall to 38 degrees, and St. Louis will have a low of 40. Springfield is on the colder side at 36 degrees. Indianapolis is forecasted for 43 degrees, while Fort Wayne will experience a slight drop to 38.
Overall, the region is influenced by a system that’s bringing warmer air into the southern portions, leading to a noticeable contrast between the northern and southern Midwest temperatures. Peoria is forecasted to reach 67. Kansas City is behind the front so it’s much cooler, with a high of just 49 degrees. St. Louis will see more mild conditions at 71 degrees, and Indianapolis is anticipated to hit 72. Further south, Louisville and Bowling Green can expect highs of 72 and 75 degrees respectively.
A cold front moves across the Midwest, bringing a mix of rain and isolated thunderstorms. Indianapolis and Fort Wayne will experience scattered showers with possible lightning strikes. Watch for windy conditions in Cleveland into Detroit as the system pushes east, reaching peak intensity by late afternoon. Temperatures will range in the mid-50s, dropping 10 degrees post-passage of the front. Keep an eye on developments as gusty winds coupled with rain could disrupt travel plans and outdoor activities through Saturday night.
The UV index in Chicago is low this weekend with values of 3 for both Saturday and Sunday. Expect storm systems to cover much of the sky, reducing the risk of harmful sun exposure.
For the 7-day forecast in Chicago: Saturday: Showers expected late with a high of 69 degrees and a low of 58. Sunday: Cloudy skies throughout the day, reaching a high of 71 degrees, with a nighttime low of 36. Monday: Partly cloudy with cooler temperatures, peaking at 42 degrees and dipping to 32.
