Jackson, Mississippi is experiencing heavy rain as the system advances. Memphis and surrounding areas remain under a cloud cover as the storms approach. Rain is extending into the panhandle of Florida, with New Orleans and areas to the east receiving moderate showers. Meanwhile, areas like Savannah and Jacksonville currently enjoy a break from the precipitation.
Atlanta’s afternoon brings temperatures near 69 degrees, with winds from the south-southwest at 11 miles per hour. Scattered thunderstorms are expected, transitioning to a more consistent thunderstorm pattern by 6 PM with temperatures around 68 degrees. By 8 PM, a slight dip to 65 degrees occurs as thunderstorms continue, and winds ease slightly to 8 miles per hour.
In the Southeast today, we’re seeing warm temperatures across the board. Shreveport is warming up to 78 degrees, while Houston will reach a sunny 82. Jackson is not far behind at 76 degrees, and New Orleans is expected to hit 77. Over in Florida, both Tampa and Jacksonville are toasty at 88 degrees, making it one of the warmest spots today. In contrast, Nashville is much cooler at just 65 degrees, experiencing a noticeable drop in temperatures compared to the southern portions of the region. This temperature contrast highlights the significant variations we’re observing today across the Southeast.
The Southeast will experience a noticeable drop in temperatures tonight. Memphis is expected to hit a low of 48 degrees, while Nashville cools down to 49. Atlanta will see a chilly 49 as well, with Montgomery dropping to 50. Moving further south, Jackson will reach 49, and New Orleans will remain milder at 62. In contrast, it’ll be more comfortable in Tampa at 69 degrees, and Miami will hold steady at 74 degrees.
High temperatures in the Southeast tomorrow will be notably warm, with Miami leading the charge at 84 degrees. Jacksonville and Tampa are close behind, both reaching 83 degrees, while Savannah expects a high of 82. Houston will see a comfortable 82 as well, while the rest of the region enjoys above-average temperatures, with Memphis at 69 and Nashville a bit cooler at 57. A warm air mass is influencing these readings, signaling a pleasant day for the southeastern states.
A strong line of thunderstorms is expected to sweep through the Southeast tomorrow, impacting cities from Atlanta to Jacksonville. These storms may bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and localized flooding. By the late afternoon, storms march through Montgomery heading toward Georgia, with potential severe weather risks. Early morning rain showers in New Orleans transition to clearer skies by evening. Temperatures remain mild, but prepare for a wet commute with showers persisting into the evening hours across parts of Florida.
The UV index in Atlanta is moderate today with a level of 4, indicating a burn time of about 35 minutes in direct sunlight. For Sunday, the UV index will increase significantly to 9 under clear skies, with a quicker burn time of just 15 minutes. It’s important to seek shade, apply sunscreen, and wear protective clothing when outside to avoid sunburn.
