There is a line of rain stretching from just east of Dallas, pushing into Little Rock, offering showers and some heavier bursts likely along the way. Rain extends down into eastern Texas, moving towards the Gulf Coast, bringing precipitation near Corpus Christi. Showers are also present over the Mississippi River Delta, affecting areas around Jackson, Mississippi. Farther west in the Oklahoma Panhandle, conditions are calmer, with no significant precipitation noted at the moment.
In Austin this afternoon, temperatures will gradually creep up, reaching 70 degrees by 3 PM and 73 degrees by 5 PM. The clouds will persist through most of the afternoon, though they’ll begin to part slightly by 7 PM when a gentle east-southeast wind at 3 miles per hour introduces a few sunbreaks.
Let’s take a look at today’s high temperatures across the Southern Plains. It’s a warm day in El Paso, with a high reaching 86 degrees. Midland is also hot, matching El Paso’s temperatures at 86. Over in Dallas, we see a cooler contrast at 67 degrees, while San Antonio warms up to a pleasant 75. Oklahoma City is on the cooler side as well, peaking at just 69 degrees. Jackson continues to enjoy milder conditions today, with a high of 79, while Little Rock nudges up to 78. New Orleans is right in the mix with a high of 78 as well.
Now for the low temperatures in the Southern Plains tonight. Expect a drop to 46 degrees in Kansas City as a cold air mass settles in. Oklahoma City will see a low of 48. Meanwhile, Dallas will cool down to 69 degrees, while Midland will be slightly cooler at 59. El Paso can expect a low of 54 degrees. San Antonio will stay relatively mild at 68 degrees.
Highs for the Southern Plains region tomorrow are expected to be quite warm as we approach the end of March. El Paso will experience a pleasant high of 79 degrees. In Midland, temperatures are set to soar to a robust 87 degrees, well above average for this time of year. San Antonio also looks to reach a balmy 85 degrees, while Corpus Christi is anticipated to hit 83 degrees. Dallas is slightly cooler with a high of 82 degrees.
