Across the Southwest, current conditions reveal varied weather patterns. Rain showers are making their way inland from the Pacific Ocean, affecting regions along the California coastline. These showers provide a welcome break from the drier spell, delivering much-needed moisture to the central valleys, while snow makes an appearance in the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada. Farther to the east, in Nevada, cities such as Ely and Reno are facing clear conditions, but keep an eye out as the weather could shift. Meanwhile, Cedar City in Utah is experiencing snow, creating a wintery scene. Down south in Arizona, Phoenix remains largely dry with some cloud cover, while Flagstaff is bracing for cooler temperatures with a chance of light snow showers. Las Vegas enjoys dry weather conditions for now. In the California valleys, like Fresno and Bakersfield, residents can expect intermittent rain showers, with Los Angeles experiencing light drizzle under overcast skies, maintaining mild temperatures. San Diego remains primarily dry, revealing partly cloudy skies along the coastline.
For this evening in Salt Lake City, anticipate a drop in temperatures, starting at 48 degrees around 9 PM with north-northwest winds at 10 miles per hour. By 11 PM, temperatures will slide to 43 degrees accompanied by a north-northeast breeze at 9 miles per hour, under partly cloudy skies. Approaching 1 AM, expect clearer conditions as temperatures decrease further to 39 degrees, with a gentle northeast wind at 7 miles per hour.
Tonight in the Southwest, we’re looking at some chilly temperatures as a cold air mass settles in. Ely drops to a brisk 23 degrees, while Flagstaff also sees a frigid low of 23. In Las Vegas, expect a low of 50, which is a noticeable drop from warmer afternoons. Cedar City will feel the chill at 28 degrees. Moving further south, Phoenix maintains a milder night at 57 degrees. Bakersfield will cool down to 50, while Los Angeles stays comfortable at 52.
High temperatures for the Southwest tomorrow are shaping up to be quite warm, with several cities experiencing readings above average for this time of year. In California, Los Angeles will reach a high of 77 degrees, while San Diego is expected to see a pleasant 72 degrees. Farther inland, Bakersfield could warm up to 79 degrees. Fresno follows closely with a high of 77 as well. Moving to Nevada, Las Vegas will enjoy a warm day with highs around 75 degrees. Ely will be much cooler, only managing to get to 54 degrees. Arizona’s Phoenix is set to match the warmer trend with a high of 79 degrees. Over in Flagstaff, temperatures will remain significantly lower at just 46 degrees.
The Southwest forecast brings a mix of weather conditions for tomorrow. Expect a clear and sunny pattern across most of the desert areas, delivering dry conditions ideal for outdoor activities. However, a cold front is advancing, bringing isolated showers and potential thunderstorms, especially to the higher terrains. Northern Arizona may experience brief, heavier downpours with rapid temperature drops. In contrast, a more mild and dry air mass prevails farther west, over Southern California. If traveling through mountain areas, be aware of slick conditions from any rainfall. Keep an eye on local weather alerts as minor flooding could occur in areas with heavier rainfall.
The UV index in Salt Lake City will be moderate on Friday with a value of 5, and cloudy conditions are expected to reduce exposure slightly. On Saturday, the UV index climbs to 6 under clear skies.
