Stay informed, stay prepared! Strong storms are currently sweeping through the Southeast, moving from Memphis down towards Jackson and Shreveport. Heavy rain is blanketing these areas and advancing northeast toward Atlanta, bringing the potential for more intense weather conditions. Meanwhile, clouds are moving into Charlotte ahead of these rain systems as well. In the eastern parts of the Southeast, including Savannah and Jacksonville, conditions are relatively calm, with skies beginning to clear out in Northern Florida. Over in the central Gulf Coast, areas like New Orleans are currently experiencing dry conditions. However, rain is developing farther west over Houston, indicating changes headed towards Louisiana. This dynamic setup highlights the variability of weather across the region today.
This afternoon in Atlanta, temperatures hover around 84 degrees with mostly cloudy skies, and a mild south wind blowing at 12 miles per hour. By 7 PM, partly cloudy conditions prevail, with temperatures slightly dropping to 81 degrees as the wind calms to 8 miles per hour.
Let’s take a look at today’s high temperatures across the Southeast. Starting off with Jackson, it’s a hot one at 90 degrees, matching the temperature in Montgomery. Over in New Orleans, expect a warm high of 86 degrees. In Florida, Tampa is sizzling with a high of 91 degrees, while Miami has a cooler afternoon at 82 degrees. Further north, Atlanta is enjoying a high of 84 degrees, and in Jacksonville, we’re seeing a pleasant 88 degrees.
In Memphis, expect a low of 36 degrees, while Nashville will chill to around 34. Further south, Jackson will see a low of 39 degrees. Montgomery won’t be much warmer at 41. Atlanta is forecasted to dip to 38, and Savannah will settle at 43. Over in Florida, it stays mild with Tampa at 57 and Miami around 65 degrees. The rest of the region is experiencing a shift toward cooler conditions as we head into the night.
High temperatures across the Southeast tomorrow are shaping up to be well above average for this time of year. Montgomery is also slated for a hot day with temperatures reaching 90 degrees. Over in Jacksonville, highs are forecasted to hit 88 degrees, similar to Atlanta, while Tampa may experience a sizzling high of 93 degrees. Farther west in Jackson, Mississippi, the temperature will be a little cooler but still warm at 86 degrees. New Orleans is on track to see a high of 84 degrees. Meanwhile, Memphis will remain relatively moderate with a high of 82. Overall, the warm, humid air contributing to these elevated temperatures could also lead to some afternoon thunderstorms across parts of the region.
A dynamic weather pattern is shaping up for the Southeast on Friday, April 4th. A cold front is moving from the west, bringing a line of showers and thunderstorms extending from Shreveport through Memphis early in the day. The front is expected to advance eastward, impacting regions from Jackson, Mississippi to Montgomery, Alabama, later in the afternoon. Thunderstorms are likely to develop, with the potential for heavy rain and gusty winds as the system progresses. There’s a heightened risk for severe weather, particularly in areas outlined by the Storm Prediction Center. It’s important to stay alert for potential severe thunderstorm warnings. In Georgia and the Carolinas, afternoon and evening storms are expected as the cold front interacts with the warm, humid air mass in place. Cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, and Savannah might see downpours that could lead to localized flooding. Total rainfall could exceed an inch in some spots, beneficial for easing drought concerns but also posing challenges for low-lying areas.
The UV index in Atlanta on Thursday will be 6, which is moderate, with a burn time of around 23 minutes. As we head into Friday, the index climbs to 8, meaning the sun’s rays are stronger, and burn time is just about 17 minutes!
