The radar shows a significant weather system impacting the Southeast. Storms are intensifying over eastern Texas with heavy rainfall around Houston moving toward Shreveport. This system is expected to bring showers to Jackson and continue its path to Montgomery, so keep an umbrella handy. There’s also light rain approaching coastal areas, namely from New Orleans to Jacksonville. Clear skies are being enjoyed from Tampa down to Miami, giving the central and southern Florida a reprieve from wet conditions.
For this evening in Atlanta, anticipate a mostly cloudy sky with temperatures starting at 69 degrees at 8 PM and dropping to 65 degrees by midnight. Winds will remain light from the east at 4 to 5 miles per hour.
Tonight in the Southeast, expect milder conditions compared to last night with low temperatures generally in the mid to upper 60s. Memphis will cool down to 66 degrees, while Nashville sees a slightly cooler 65. Shreveport is forecasted at 69 degrees, and Jackson at 66 degrees. Montgomery will drop to 63 degrees, with Atlanta not far behind at 62. It’s a warmer night for coastal areas, with Jacksonville at 66 and Miami remaining mild at 74 degrees.
Tomorrow, the Southeast will see above-average temperatures, particularly in Florida where Tampa is set to reach a sizzling 92 degrees. Houston will also enjoy warm conditions with a high of 85 degrees, along with Shreveport at 83. Further east, Jackson and Montgomery will be pleasantly warm, hitting 82 and 84 degrees respectively. In contrast, lower readings are expected in Atlanta at 73 and Nashville at 76, well below the surrounding areas, likely influenced by a lingering front.
A cold front moving eastward will bring thunderstorms across the Southeast. Expect heavy rain and potential severe storms from Houston to New Orleans on Wednesday. By afternoon, these storms will extend into Jackson and reach Atlanta, causing possible disruptions during the evening commute. Localized flooding is a concern due to the intense rainfall rates. As the front passes, temperatures will drop slightly, bringing cooler and drier conditions by Thursday.
The UV index in Atlanta will reach a high of 8 on Wednesday, with sunburn possible after just 17 minutes of direct exposure, so protective measures are advised. By Thursday, it lowers to a moderate level of 6, translating to a burn time of approximately 23 minutes.
For the 7 Day Outlook in Atlanta: Wednesday: Thunderstorms early, with highs reaching 78 degrees and lows of 60. Thursday: Thunderstorms continue, slightly cooler at 76 degrees for the high and 62 for the low.
