The rain off the coast of Houston is intensifying, pointing towards possible developments in the Gulf.
Atlanta’s afternoon temperatures rise to a warm 92 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. Winds from the east are gentle at 4 miles per hour. By 6 PM, temperatures ease to 89 degrees with partly cloudy conditions and winds shifting slightly from the east at 5 miles per hour. Scattered thunderstorms develop by 8 PM, bringing temperatures down to 85 degrees and winds from the east-southeast at 6 miles per hour.
In the Southeast today, expect some toasty temperatures across the region. Shreveport will see a high of 96 degrees, while Houston is slightly cooler at 92. Moving over to Jackson, temperatures are forecasted to reach 94 degrees, and Montgomery is hotter still with a high of 97. Over in Georgia, Atlanta will hit 93 degrees, but Savannah cools down a bit to 88. The Florida coastline brings more pleasant conditions, with Tampa at 87, Jacksonville also at 87, and Miami mild at 84.
Tonight, Memphis will cool down to 76 degrees. Nashville is expected to see a low of 74, while Jackson will rest at 76. Shreveport will drop to 77, and New Orleans will stay mild at 77 as well. In Florida, the low for Tampa will be around 76, with Miami remaining warmer at 81 degrees.
Tomorrow, Shreveport will sizzle with a high of 98 degrees. Houston is forecasted to reach 94, while New Orleans can expect a comfortable 92 degrees. Jackson and Memphis will also feel the heat, both hitting 96 degrees. Montgomery’s high will be a warm 94 degrees, and Atlanta will see temperatures around 92 degrees. Coastal cities will be slightly cooler, with Jacksonville at 90 and Savannah reaching 88 degrees.
A cold front will be moving through the Southeast, arriving in Atlanta early Wednesday morning. Expect thunderstorms from New Orleans to Montgomery, with showers extending into Jacksonville and Savannah by Wednesday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms could lead to localized flooding, with rainfall exceeding an inch in some areas over the next 48 hours. Winds may become gusty with potential severe weather risks, especially from Mississippi to Georgia. Behind the front, cooler and drier air is expected to settle in by late Wednesday.
In Atlanta, the UV index will be very high at 11 on Tuesday, with a burn time of just 11 minutes in direct sunlight. On Wednesday, expect the UV index to slightly decrease to 10, resulting in a burn time of 12 minutes.
