The Southern Plains are witnessing a surge in weather activity. Thunderstorms are advancing over Oklahoma City, pushing eastward towards Little Rock, where rain is expected shortly. Showers extend from Albuquerque to Midland, with El Paso and San Antonio experiencing light rain. Dallas is under the influence of severe thunderstorms, carrying the potential for strong winds and heavy rain. The Gulf Coast near Corpus Christi and New Orleans remains under mostly clear skies, providing a temporary respite from the storm systems.
Austinites, get ready for a stormy start tomorrow morning with heavy thunderstorms at 8 AM and a temperature of 70 degrees. By 10 AM, the temperature nudges up to 71 degrees, and thunderstorms persist with winds shifting from the east-southeast at 9 mph to the south at 7 mph. Heading toward midday, the showers continue with temperatures rising to 74 degrees and a gentle south-southeast breeze at 8 mph.
High temperatures for the Southern Plains tomorrow are trending above average as warm air moves in. San Antonio will soar to a steamy 89 degrees, while Corpus Christi isn’t far behind at 87. Midland is expected to hit 77 degrees, and El Paso will see a high of 72. Dallas will be cooler, with a high reaching 67 degrees, while Oklahoma City will only see 60. This warming trend is influenced by a ridge of high pressure establishing itself over the region.
A cold front is advancing across the Southern Plains, bringing showers from Dallas to San Antonio tomorrow, offering relief from dry conditions. However, in Oklahoma City, keep an eye out for stronger storms, with gusty winds and possible hail. This unstable air mass combined with the cold front heightens the risk of severe weather in the region, especially towards southeast Texas. As the front pushes further east by nightfall, expect conditions to begin clearing, with temperatures cooling slightly after the rain. Stay weather aware through the day, especially if you’re traveling through areas prone to flash flooding.
The UV index in Austin will be high, reaching levels of 8 on Monday with a burn time of just 17 minutes.
