Across the Southern Plains, the regional radar is showing quite a bit of activity today. A line of thunderstorms is advancing from west to east across southeastern Louisiana, directing some severe weather towards New Orleans with potential gusty winds and heavy rain, moving farther east into coastal Mississippi. As we head north, the skies clear somewhat, and places like Jackson and Little Rock are experiencing mostly clear conditions, though cloudiness is apparent in some areas. The rest of the central and western parts of the Southern Plains from Oklahoma City to Dallas and as far west as Albuquerque are currently enjoying dry conditions under partly cloudy to sunny skies. San Antonio and Midland are also relatively calm, though we do see some cloud coverage making its way across the Texas Panhandle, offering a contrast to the bright spots over El Paso. These areas remain mild as the day progresses.
For tomorrow morning in Austin, you can expect a calm start with mostly cloudy skies at 7 AM and a temperature of 61 degrees. High temperatures for the Southern Plains tomorrow show a mix of warmth across the region. In El Paso, expect a high of 82 degrees, while Midland warms up significantly, reaching a hot 90 degrees—well above average for this time of year. A developing cold front will influence much of the Southern Plains tomorrow, bringing assorted weather impacts. Expect scattered rain showers stretching from Dallas to San Antonio, providing necessary moisture to the region. Meanwhile, Oklahoma City is under the threat of stronger thunderstorms due to an unstable air mass, signifying potential severe weather alerts moving into the afternoon. As the front progresses, areas from Little Rock to Jackson should stay vigilant for the risk of heavy storms persisting into Wednesday. Temperatures across the region will drop significantly after the front departs, setting the stage for cooler, yet drier, conditions towards midweek.
