We’re seeing a mix of conditions, with everything from mild temperatures in Los Angeles to intense cold snaps near Reno and unexpected showers enhancing the scenery from Northern California down to Southern. Follow along as we navigate the forecasts, offering useful tips and insights on staying prepared for the unpredictable Southwest weather. The Southwest region’s radar reveals a mix of weather conditions. In Northern California, around Redding and extending south toward Fresno, showers are prevalent, providing welcome precipitation to the area. Higher elevations near Reno are experiencing light snow, Farther to the south, Las Vegas remains dry without significant weather events affecting the region. The higher elevations near Flagstaff see intermittent snow showers, with a chill in the air. Southern California from Los Angeles to San Diego enjoys mild conditions with only light drizzle affecting parts of the coast.
For Los Angeles this afternoon, expect temperatures to reach 62 degrees by 3 p.m., climbing slightly to 63 degrees by 5 p.m., before tapering to 61 degrees by 7 p.m. Winds will be primarily from the south, ranging from 7 to 8 miles per hour.
Let’s take a look at today’s high temperatures across the Southwest. In Arizona, Phoenix is feeling the heat with a high of 83 degrees, making it a warm day in the Valley. Meanwhile, Flagstaff remains a cooler spot at 60 degrees, reflecting more mild conditions in the higher elevations. Moving over to Nevada, Las Vegas is hot today with a high of 77 degrees, while Ely is considerably cooler at 55 degrees. California is also seeing some temperature differences; Bakersfield reaches a pleasant 73, but San Francisco is staying cool with a high of just 59 degrees.
Tonight in the Southwest, temperatures are dipping significantly. Farther south, Cedar City, Utah, will hit 26 degrees, while Flagstaff is expected to be even colder at 20. Las Vegas will experience a low of 50 degrees, which is a bit warmer in comparison. Over in California, Redding will drop down to 39 degrees, and Fresno will rest at 44. San Francisco is forecasting a low of 45 degrees, while Los Angeles will see a mild 47 degrees.
Here’s the regional high temperature rundown for the Southwest this Tuesday: In California, San Diego will enjoy a mild day with a high of 60 degrees. Los Angeles warms up to 66 degrees, while Bakersfield reaches 61 degrees. Fresno is slightly cooler at 55 degrees, and up north, San Francisco gets to 56 degrees. Moving over to Nevada, Las Vegas will be quite warm with highs hitting 66 degrees. In the Arizona desert, Phoenix will see a significant jump, reaching a high of 74 degrees, which is above average for this time of year. Flagstaff will have a cool high of just 45 degrees.
In the Southwest tomorrow, expect a strong frontal system to bring impactful weather. Coastal areas in Southern California will see bands of rain, leading to slick conditions on roadways. The San Bernardino Valley could experience heavier downpours, increasing the risk of localized flooding. Farther north, in Northern California, anticipate snowfall in the mountain regions, which will make travel over passes challenging.
The UV index in Los Angeles starts off at 5 on Monday, with a burn time of about 27 minutes. As we move into Tuesday, the index climbs to 7, where the sun’s rays are stronger, and you can experience a burn in just 20 minutes.
