The Midwest is seeing a mix of weather conditions today. Thunderstorms are intensifying near Detroit, pushing eastward. Rainfall is spreading across northeastern Illinois into Indiana, with light showers around Chicago and spots near Indianapolis spilling some drops over farmland. Meanwhile, skies remain mostly calm from Des Moines to St. Louis, although some rain is drifting in from the northwest towards Des Moines.
Tomorrow morning in Chicago, expect a mostly cloudy start with temperatures around 75 degrees by 8 AM. The clouds continue as temperatures rise to 77 degrees by 10 AM. Winds will be gentle, coming from the southwest at 8 to 10 miles per hour. By midday, temperatures will reach 80 degrees, with winds shifting slightly to the west-southwest at 11 miles per hour.
Tomorrow in the Midwest, highs will be sizzling with Indianapolis reaching 90 degrees and Louisville hitting a hot 94. St. Louis will also see warm temps at 87 degrees, while Kansas City isn’t far behind at 87 as well. Peoria is expected to reach 88, and Cleveland will be warm at 91 degrees. Overall, most cities will experience above-average temperatures due to a high-pressure system dominating the region, bringing in that summer heat.
A cold front will push into the Midwest late Tuesday, with showers and thunderstorms developing from Kansas City to Cleveland. Watch for severe weather risks in Illinois and Indiana, particularly around Peoria and Indianapolis, where heavy rain and gusty winds are expected. Cooler temperatures follow the front, with Chicago and Detroit experiencing temperatures dropping by 5 to 10 degrees by Wednesday. While significant flooding is not anticipated, localized flash floods could occur, especially in urban areas. As the front moves eastward, expect showers to diminish late Wednesday from St. Louis to Columbus.
The UV index in Chicago is predicted to be high through Friday and Saturday, standing at 7. Expect quick burn times, around 20 minutes in direct sunlight. Make sure to pack your sunscreen and perhaps a chic sunhat for any outdoor adventures!
