In the Midwest, the Regional Radar shows a significant area of rain and thunderstorms sweeping across the Great Lakes region, impacting cities like Cleveland, Detroit, and Saginaw with heavy precipitation. Fort Wayne and Columbus are also experiencing persistent showers, with the system moving eastward. Chicago and Indianapolis see sporadic rain showers, potentially causing commuting delays. A separate rain system is seen developing over St. Louis and Springfield, indicating a wet day ahead. Despite these active systems, Bowling Green and Louisville enjoy relatively clear skies, providing a break from the precipitation.
In Chicago, afternoon temperatures will hold steady at 53 degrees with a north-northeast wind around 16 miles per hour, decreasing slightly in the evening. The sky remains mostly cloudy, creating a overcast ambiance through the afternoon and into the evening. Temperatures gently drop to 52 degrees by 8 PM, as the wind calms to 8 miles per hour.
This afternoon, Kansas City tops the charts with a pleasant high of 72 degrees, while Springfield isn’t far behind at 73. Heading northeast, St. Louis will see a high of 69 degrees, contrasting with the cooler 55 degrees in Chicago. Indianapolis checks in at 58, and Fort Wayne isn’t far behind with 56. Louisville and Bowling Green are seeing mild conditions, with highs of 64 and 73 degrees, respectively.
Low temperatures tonight in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis settle at 40 and 48 degrees, respectively. Detroit is forecasted at a cool 45 degrees. Expect temperatures to fall to 44 in Columbus and 43 in Saginaw. Kansas City and Springfield, however, will remain mild at 57 degrees.
Tomorrow, St. Louis leads the region with 72 degrees, while Peoria and Louisville both follow closely at 71 degrees. Indianapolis will warm up to 69 degrees, with Kansas City slightly cooler at 68. Chicago remains cooler at 58 degrees, influenced by lingering cloud cover.
Expect the temperature to dip slightly behind the cold front in areas like Chicago and Fort Wayne. From Des Moines to Indianapolis, conditions remain mostly dry, with some patchy clouds.
The UV index in Chicago for today, is moderate at 5, with a sunburn potential in about 27 minutes if spending time in direct sunlight. On Friday, the UV index rises to a high of 8, with a quicker burn time of just 17 minutes.
