This week, expect a range of conditions from severe thunderstorms to unexpectedly mild temperatures. Storms are surging through central Missouri, with severe weather conditions concentrated around St. Louis, pushing eastward towards Indianapolis. Springfield is experiencing heavy rainfall, while isolated showers skim across eastern Iowa near Des Moines and Peoria. Over in the Upper Midwest, rain bands are sweeping through Chicago, reaching into Wisconsin and Michigan areas such as Saginaw and Detroit. The Ohio Valley, including Fort Wayne and Columbus, is under a dense cloud cover, yet conditions remain dry for now. Farrther north in Cleveland, a mix of light rain is anticipated later, while Bowling Green sees scattered drizzle.
This afternoon in Chicago, expect temperatures to start at 64 degrees around 3 PM, cooling to 54 degrees by 7 PM. Winds will transition from northwest at 14 miles per hour to northeast at 9 miles per hour.
Today, we’re seeing some pleasant highs across the Midwest. Chicago is hitting 76 degrees while Peoria is slightly warmer at 75. In the Indiana heartland, Indianapolis will reach 79, with Louisville not far behind at 82. Kansas City is experiencing cooler temperatures at 67 degrees, creating a significant contrast with Bowling Green, which is basking in a warm 85 degrees. Over in St. Louis, expect a high of 74, making it a relatively mild day for the area.
For tonight, expect chilly temperatures across the Midwest. Chicago will cool down to 50 degrees, while Des Moines drops to 55. Kansas City and Springfield will also see lows of 58 degrees. In contrast, Indianapolis will be slightly warmer at 64 degrees, and Louisville will be at 66.
High temperatures in the Midwest tomorrow reflect a warming trend, with many areas experiencing above-average readings. Chicago will see a high of 57 degrees, while Peoria reaches 64. Indianapolis is expected to hit 72 degrees, and Louisville could warm up to 79 degrees. Notably, Bowling Green will experience a spike in warmth with highs reaching 87 degrees.
On the futurecast for the Midwest, a robust weather system brings substantial changes. Expect showers and scattered thunderstorms moving across Des Moines by early morning, spreading east towards Chicago and Fort Wayne through the day. With an unstable atmosphere, there’s a possibility for severe thunderstorms, including gusty winds and hail, particularly around Peoria and Indianapolis. Rain totals could exceed one inch, potentially leading to localized flooding.
The UV index in Chicago will be moderate on Tuesday with a value of 5, presenting a burn time of approximately 27 minutes if you’re under the sun. Wednesday sees a rise with the UV index at 6, reducing the time to burn to around 23 minutes.
