As Los Angeles enjoys beautiful clear skies, areas further south are experiencing a sizzling heat wave with temperatures soaring above the seasonal average. Keep an eye on Phoenix and Las Vegas, where the mercury is pushing the limits. A line of showers is evident near Redding, moving southeast along the California coast, offering some relief as it heads towards Reno. The rest of California, stretching from San Francisco down to Los Angeles and San Diego, appears dry with clear conditions. Ely and Salt Lake City are currently free from precipitation under clear skies. Cedar City, Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Las Vegas are staying dry, maintaining clear conditions without signs of any approaching weather systems.
Evening temperatures in Los Angeles will start at 67 degrees at 9 PM, slowly cooling to 61 degrees by 1 AM. Winds from the south-southwest at 9 mph will ease to 4 mph from the south-southeast.
Tonight, Phoenix will remain warm at 77 degrees, while Las Vegas cools down to 69 degrees. In Flagstaff, expect a chilly low of 44 degrees, and Ely will see a brisk drop to 34 degrees. Over in Cedar City, temperatures will settle around 45 degrees, and Redding will be cooler at 50 degrees.
Tomorrow in Phoenix, prepare for a scorching high of 100 degrees, significantly above average. Las Vegas is also heating up, expected to reach 93 degrees. Bakersfield and Fresno will both hit 88, aligning with warmer trends in the Central Valley. San Diego will see milder conditions with a high of 74 degrees, while Los Angeles warms up to 73. Temperatures will be influenced by a strong ridge of high pressure settled over the Southwest, enhancing those summer-like readings.
Strong winds and thunderstorms are expected to impact Arizona and New Mexico from tomorrow into the evening. Torrential rain and potential flash flooding are likely, with upwards of 2 inches of rain predicted by late evening. A cold front moves through, bringing with it a dip in temperatures and clear skies for the weekend.
The UV index in Los Angeles will reach an extreme level of 10 on Saturday, with a very short burn time of about 12 minutes. On Sunday, the ultraviolet exposure remains at 10, with similar sun risks.
