A strong weather system is delivering rain to the California coastline, stretching from San Francisco down to San Diego. The interior of Central Valley, including Fresno, is also experiencing wet conditions, while higher elevations receive snowfall. Western Nevada, particularly near Reno, is seeing a mix of precipitation, with areas like Ely encountering snow showers. There is significant rain activity near Los Angeles and moving towards Bakersfield. Las Vegas and Phoenix are enjoying clear conditions, free from precipitation.
In Los Angeles this afternoon, temperatures are climbing to 66 degrees by 4 PM and will linger at 67 degrees through the early evening. Winds will be steady from the south-southwest at around 7 to 8 miles per hour.
Today in the Southwest, we’re seeing a variety of temperatures across key cities. In Phoenix, expect a warm high of 93 degrees, while Las Vegas isn’t far behind at 91. Bakersfield is heating up with a high of 89 degrees, making it one of the hotter spots in California. San Diego remains cooler at 67, a stark contrast to the inland temperatures. Flagstaff will experience a mild day at 64, showcasing the region’s varied climate. Meanwhile, cities like Fresno are enjoying a pleasant 87 degrees.
Tonight, Flagstaff is expected to drop to a chilly 37 degrees, while Ely will see temperatures falling to 38. Las Vegas will be a bit warmer at 62, but that marks a significant drop from recent highs. San Francisco is looking at a low of 50, and temperatures in Los Angeles will also rest at 54. Bakersfield warms slightly to 54 as well, reflecting a mild evening for the city.
The high temperatures for the Southwest region tomorrow are expected to be well above average, signaling a warm day across the area. Phoenix stands out with a notable high of 95 degrees, while Las Vegas heats up to 86 degrees. In California, Bakersfield reaches 74 degrees, and Fresno is slightly cooler at 72 degrees. Coastal cities like Los Angeles and San Diego will experience moderate highs of 63 and 64 degrees respectively. Light winds and clear skies will contribute to these elevated temperatures, making it a great day for outdoor activities.
Expect a dry start to the day tomorrow across the Southwest, but keep an eye on an afternoon shift. A cold front is set to move from Northern California into Nevada, bringing potential for isolated thunderstorms and possibly gusty winds. Be prepared for slick roads and reduced visibility, especially in higher elevations like the Sierra Nevada. For the desert regions, temperatures will climb to the low 90s by midday before cooling slightly after the front passes. Keep in mind this weather change could enhance dust and debris in more arid areas, impacting air quality.
The UV index in Los Angeles today will be very high at 9, with an expected burn time of 15 minutes in direct sunlight. Tomorrow’s UV index will drop to a moderate level of 4 due to increased cloud cover, extending the burn time to about 35 minutes.
