A looming cold front might switch things up by late Monday; prepare for potential thunderstorms and a necessary gear-up for rain precautions. A pleasant start to the day across much of the Southeast, with plenty of clear skies to enjoy. On the Southeast regional radar, rain has made its way into the Gulf Coast, with a small patch of showers around New Orleans moving east across southern Mississippi. Coastal areas from Houston to Jacksonville and into Miami are enjoying mild and dry conditions, perfect for outdoor activities. Looking farther north, the radar shows largely clear conditions up through Atlanta and into Charlotte, providing a nice break from the recent unsettled weather. The Tennessee River Valley, including Memphis, is currently under clear skies with no precipitation in sight. It’s a great time to appreciate the mild spring weather.
This afternoon in Miami, expect sunny skies with temperatures starting at 79 degrees around 4 PM. As the afternoon progresses, temperatures will gently decrease to 77 degrees by 6 PM. Easterly winds will maintain a steady pace at 11 miles per hour. By 8 PM, temperatures will dip slightly to 75 degrees with winds easing to 9 miles per hour, setting up for clear conditions into the evening.
Let’s take a look at today’s regional high temperatures across the Southeast. We have a warm day unfolding with highlights in key cities. In New Orleans, temperatures are reaching a pleasant 81 degrees. Moving east, Jacksonville is a bit warmer, hitting 86 degrees, while Savannah shares the spotlight with a similar high of 84. Heading to Alabama, Montgomery warms up to 86 degrees, and further north, Jackson sees a comfortable 84 degrees.
Memphis will see a low of 33 degrees, with Nashville dropping to 35. Shreveport will remain a bit warmer at 45, while Jackson also sits at 45 degrees. In Atlanta, expect a chilly 41 degrees. Montgomery will have a low of 45 as well. As we head south, Savannah cools to 50, and Jacksonville will be a bit warmer at 55 degrees. It’s a mild night for Tampa, with a low of 64, while Miami stays warmer at 66 degrees.
Tomorrow in the Southeast, we’re expecting warm and above-average temperatures across the region. Jacksonville will be the standout, reaching a high of 86 degrees. Farther south, Miami hits 82 degrees. Atlanta will see a pleasant day with highs around 70 degrees, while Montgomery is expected to reach 75 degrees. Temperatures in New Orleans will climb to 79 degrees and Jackson will hit 75 degrees. Interestingly, Memphis might not see quite as much warmth, with a high only reaching 66 degrees. This cooler snap could be attributed to some lingering cloud cover.
A cold front is poised to impact the Southeast beginning late Monday evening, leading to a potential for severe weather. Expect thunderstorms from northern Louisiana to northern Alabama with the Storm Prediction Center highlighting these states in their Severe Weather Outlook. By Tuesday morning, the weather system shifts over to Georgia, bringing showers and thunderstorms from Atlanta to Savannah. Rainfall could exceed an inch in some areas, posing a risk for localized flooding. Temperatures will drop slightly post-frontal passage.
The UV index in Miami will be very high both Monday and Tuesday, with a value of 11. Expect a short burn time of about 11 minutes due to intense sun exposure.
