The storms are making their way towards Jackson, while Memphis sees just a hint of rain on the horizon. Shreveport is already experiencing heavier showers, with an outlook for these to continue eastward. Over in Florida, scattered rain patches are dotting the areas near Tampa and Miami, creating some wet spots to watch.
Miami’s afternoon temperatures are steady at 84 degrees with clouds dominating the sky. A southerly breeze at 10 mph will provide some relief from the warmth. By 6 PM, expect winds to shift slightly to the south-southwest at 8 mph, maintaining cloud cover. As we approach 8 PM, temperatures dip slightly to 83 degrees with winds from the southwest at 6 mph, and we’ll see some breaks in the clouds.
In the Southeast today, we’re seeing warm temperatures across the board. Atlanta is checking in with a high of 80 degrees, while nearby Montgomery is slightly warmer at 83. Over in Savannah, it’s a bit toasty with a high of 86. Jacksonville matches Savannah’s heat at 88 degrees, making it a great day for outdoor activities. New Orleans also sees a pleasant high of 85, while Houston pushes up to 90 degrees, remaining the hottest spot in the region. A mix of sunshine and warmth is setting the tone for an enjoyable early June day!
Tonight Memphis dips to 66 degrees, while Nashville will be just slightly cooler at 64. In the lower Mississippi Valley, Jackson is forecasted for a low of 66, and New Orleans will hold at 73. Atlanta sees a mild 71, while coastal cities like Savannah and Jacksonville are expected to remain warmer, with lows of 71 and 72 degrees, respectively. The only notable cool spot tonight is Charlotte, dropping to a brisk 57 degrees.
Tomorrow Shreveport leads the way with a high of 92 degrees, while Houston closely follows at 91 degrees. Jackson will see a warm afternoon with temperatures reaching 90 degrees, and both Montgomery and Jacksonville are set to hit 89 degrees. New Orleans will have slightly cooler readings at 86 degrees.
A cold front is expected to sweep through the Southeast tomorrow, bringing showers and possible thunderstorms from Houston to Atlanta. Be alert for heavy rain and sporadic lightning, especially during the morning commute around Memphis. A significant temperature drop is forecasted post-front, with highs dipping by around 10 degrees across the region by late Wednesday. Prepare for possible localized flooding due to quick heavy downpours in some areas. The front will push through the Carolinas by tomorrow night, ushering in cooler and drier air.
The UV index in Miami on Sunday will be very high at 8, with a burn time of 17 minutes, so make sure to apply sunscreen and wear a hat. Heading into Monday, the index climbs even higher to 9, with a burn time of just 15 minutes.
