It may be the first day of Spring but the weather is not cooperating with the calendar! On the Regional Radar, light snow is sweeping through northeast Ohio, affecting areas around Cleveland. This snow is part of a broader system that’s bringing some snowflakes to parts of the central Great Lakes. Meanwhile, farther west, drier conditions dominate from Chicago through Peoria, fostering clear skies for this part of the Midwest. Heading south, Columbus and areas into Fort Wayne are dealing with scattered rain, as clouds and light showers move eastward. Louisville and Indianapolis are enjoying slightly clearer skies with fewer clouds, promising a more mild afternoon.
In Chicago tomorrow morning, prepare for a cloudy start with temperatures beginning at 36 degrees at 7 AM, gradually climbing to 44 degrees by 11 AM. Winds will be increasing from the south-southeast, starting at 12 miles per hour and reaching 17 miles per hour by late morning. Layer up if you’re heading out early, as it’ll be quite chilly!
High temperatures in the Midwest region for tomorrow are set to be quite varied. In St. Louis, expect a warm high of 67 degrees, while Kansas City will bask in similar warmth at 63 degrees. Springfield is leading the way with a high of 69 degrees, well above the seasonal norm. To the north, Peoria will see a cooler high of 56 degrees. In Indianapolis, temperatures rise to about 51 degrees, while Fort Wayne is even chillier at 46 degrees. Chicago will manage a high of just 48 degrees, reflecting slightly below-average conditions.
A dynamic weather pattern is shaping up across the Midwest with significant attention needed late Saturday as a cold front progresses from the Plains eastward. Expect rain showers and potentially severe thunderstorms, particularly from Des Moines to St. Louis, with gusty winds and hail possible. By Saturday evening, this system will expand farther east, affecting cities like Indianapolis and Fort Wayne with scattered storms. Chicago and Detroit will experience cloudy skies with occasional showers but less severe weather risks. Stay attentive to local advisories, especially considering possible severe weather alerts.
The UV index in Chicago will be moderate today with a value of 5, indicating a burn time of about 27 minutes in direct sunlight. On Sunday, the UV index drops to a low of 2 due to a storm system, significantly reducing sun exposure risk.
