Today, we navigate through a diverse range of conditions across the region, from unexpected snowfalls in northern cities to milder sunny spells down south. Full story here: https://amyfreeze.ai/ The Midwest radar is currently lighting up with a band of rain stretching from Springfield – making its way towards Peoria and St. Louis. As this rain system advances, it’s making for a wet start in these areas. Moving farther east, Fort Wayne has cloudy conditions with a chance for showers to develop shortly. Indianapolis and Louisville are on the cusp of these systems as well, so keep an umbrella handy! In the northeast corner, Detroit and Cleveland are experiencing clear skies, but that won’t last long as the system continues to roll through. Under clear skies, Bowling Green is dry and should expect a pleasant day.
This afternoon in Chicago, expect cool and overcast conditions with temperatures holding steady around 41 degrees to 42 degrees. Winds from the southeast at 14 miles per hour early, becoming south-southeast at 11 miles per hour towards 6 PM. Showers are likely to start, bringing a damp atmosphere. As we move into the evening, expect a shift to east-southeast winds at 10 miles per hour with continued rainfall, maintaining the cooler trend with temperatures around 42 degrees.
In Kansas City, it’s a warm day with a high of 75 degrees, while Springfield follows closely with a nice 73. Peoria is experiencing a more mild 57 degrees, and St. Louis is a bit warmer at 66. Heading east, Indianapolis is cooler at 50 degrees, with Fort Wayne not far behind at 45. Over in Louisville, you can expect a high of 59 degrees, and Bowling Green has a pleasant 66.
Indianapolis will cool down to 39. Peoria is expected to reach 39 degrees, and St. Louis will be slightly warmer with a low of 43. Kansas City will experience a low of 45 degrees, and Louisville will also see a low of 45. Notably, Fort Wayne may drop to 36 degrees, and Saginaw is forecasted to be even chillier at 30 degrees. Expect Cleveland to reach 34 degrees and Columbus to settle at 39.
Tomorrow’s high temperatures in the Midwest are shaping up to be quite impressive. Kansas City will be a standout with a high of 72 degrees, while Springfield also reaches 72 degrees, indicating very mild conditions for early April. St. Louis isn’t far behind, with highs at 68 degrees. Heading into Indiana, Indianapolis can expect a pleasant 63 degrees, while Peoria, Illinois, also sees a high of 63 degrees. Louisville will warm up to 68 degrees, as Charlestown, West Virginia, comes in a bit cooler at 59 degrees. However, as we move northward, Chicago is experiencing a significant dip with only 45 degrees expected, which is well below average for this time of year. Fort Wayne, Indiana, will also be on the cooler side at 52 degrees.
A strong cold front will sweep across the Midwest tomorrow. Expect widespread rain beginning early, progressing from Kansas City through Indianapolis and into Chicago by evening. Snow will fall in northern regions, such as Detroit and Cleveland, causing potential travel disruptions. Be watchful for heavy rain and gusty winds, particularly near Louisville and Cincinnati, where localized flooding may occur. Temperatures will drop significantly as the front advances, drawing a more mild air mass behind it.
