Across the Midwest, the radar paints a relatively calm picture for most areas. Peoria and St. Louis are experiencing clear conditions. If we look farther east, a band of rain is impacting the eastern portions of the region. Indianapolis and Columbus are under some cloud cover, but it’s Bowling Green and Charleston that are receiving steady rain showers. The system extends farther into southern Ohio, moving northward, keeping Cleveland wet. Saginaw and Detroit are enjoying dry conditions. Thunderstorms are not present, providing a break from the more severe weather conditions that could be expected this time of year. The radar indicates that the Midwest is mostly stable, apart from the rain systems affecting areas around Bowling Green and stretching into the Ohio River Valley.
For the afternoon in Chicago, expect partly cloudy skies with temperatures reaching 44 degrees by 3 PM. Winds will be from the northeast at 10 miles per hour. By 5 PM, temperatures dip to 42 degrees, maintaining partly cloudy conditions with continuing northeast winds at 10 miles per hour. Heading into the early evening at 7 PM, skies clear to mostly sunny, and temperatures cool to 40 degrees, with northeast winds easing slightly to 9 miles per hour.
Let’s take a look at today’s high temperatures across the Midwest. In the northern part of the region, it’s on the cooler side with Chicago hitting 44 degrees, while Fort Wayne reaches 47. Indianapolis is slightly warmer at 49 degrees. Moving south, we find St. Louis and Kansas City each enjoying a mild 55 degrees. Over to the east, we find Louisville with a high of 57 and Columbus also at 57, making for a nice day in both cities. Charleston stands out with a much warmer 69 degrees, showcasing a nice contrast with the cooler temperatures to the north.
Tonight in the Midwest, we are expecting a substantial drop in temperatures as a cold front sweeps through the region. In Chicago, you’ll see a low of 42 degrees, while Fort Wayne is forecast to dip to 38. Indianapolis is on track for a low of 48 degrees. Expect even colder temps in Detroit, where overnight lows will reach down to 36. Saginaw will be the coldest tonight at just 29 degrees. In contrast, warmer temps can be found in Louisville at 52 and Kansas City with a low of 62.
Tomorrow in the Midwest, we’re looking at a range of high temperatures that reflect a mild spring pattern, with some cities enjoying unseasonably warm readings. Indianapolis is expecting a high of 56 degrees, while the warmer air kicks in across southern parts of the region. Louisville will see a pleasant high of 62 degrees, and Bowling Green is set to warm up to 66 degrees. Kansas City is looking at a high of 65 degrees and St. Louis will be slightly warmer at 67 degrees. Springfield also joins the warmth with a high of 61 degrees. Temperatures in areas like Fort Wayne and Columbus remain below average, with highs only reaching 49 and 54 degrees, respectively.
A cold front is set to sweep across the Midwest, bringing varied weather conditions over the next 48 hours. Beginning tonight, expect light rain showers in Peoria. By tomorrow morning, northern parts including Detroit could experience drizzle and brief showers, with a chance for stronger gusts nearer the lakes. Temperatures remain steady with highs in the mid-60s from St. Louis to Indianapolis and slightly cooler conditions farther north. As the front advances eastward, showers could linger in cities like Columbus and Cleveland by late Sunday.
The UV index in Chicago will remain moderate with a value of 5 today and tomorrow, leading to potential burn times of approximately 27 minutes.
