Over the Northeast, radar imagery reveals a dynamic weather pattern. A band of rain is sweeping over the coastal areas, stretching from Boston and advancing towards the east over the Atlantic Ocean. As this rain edges eastward, it brings wet conditions primarily to the coastal communities.
Farther north near Portland, patches of lingering snow can be seen, contributing to a wintry mix in higher elevations. Syracuse and Buffalo to the west are currently enjoying clear skies with no precipitation in sight. The same goes for the Scranton to Philadelphia corridor and as far south as Washington, where skies remain mostly clear, offering a respite from the recent bouts of precipitation.
As this system moves, the attention turns towards the potential for changing conditions later in the day, especially for areas along the coastline up to Portland, where any shift in the wind can bring about rapid changes in the forecast.
In New York City, the afternoon forecast calls for sunny skies with temperatures reaching up to 55 degrees around 3 PM. Expect a shift to 53 degrees by 5 PM with a gentle northwest wind at 8 miles per hour, offering pleasant conditions for outdoor activities. As we head toward the evening, temperatures will dip to 47 degrees by 7 PM, as the sky clears.
Let’s take a look at the afternoon high temperatures in the Northeast today. It’s a chilly 39 degrees in both Buffalo and Syracuse, not ideal for any outdoor plans. In contrast, Scranton is slightly warmer with a high of 46 degrees. Areas around Philadelphia are experiencing more mild temperatures, hitting 54 degrees this afternoon. Boston matches that warmth at 54 degrees as well, while further north, Portland has a high of 47 degrees. Pittsburgh sees a decent day with a high of 51 degrees, offering a bit of relief from the cooler air that dominates the region.
Tonight Boston will see lows reaching 33 degrees, while Providence can expect 36. Albany will chill down to 37 degrees, and Syracuse will be near 39. Philadelphia is looking at a low of 44 degrees, while farther south, Washington, D.C. will rest at 53 degrees.
Tomorrow’s high temperatures in the Northeast are shaping up to be quite variable, with readings below average in many areas.
Buffalo reaches a chilly 47 degrees, while Syracuse isn’t much warmer at 48. Scranton also logs a high of 47 degrees. New York City will reach 47 degrees, as well. Albany expects a high of 49 degrees, and over in Boston, temperatures climb to just 41 degrees.
Philadelphia sees a slight uptick with a high of 54 degrees, while Pittsburgh stands out as the warm spot with a notable high of 64 degrees. Overall, a cool air mass continues to linger, contributing to these below-average temperatures across much of the region.
Expect a wet and active weather pattern across the Northeast tomorrow. An advancing cold front will bring widespread rain, with potentially heavy downpours across New York and Pennsylvania by late afternoon. Temperatures will dip slightly following the frontal passage. Look out for growing storm cells bringing gusty winds and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms. Boston and farther north into Portland should prepare for a rain-swept Wednesday morning commute with the potential for localized flooding in low-lying areas. Dry and cooler air will trail behind the front, bringing relief as skies clear by Thursday in Albany and Hartford. Remain weather aware, especially during peak travel times.
The UV index in New York City is moderate at 6 today. Expect a burn time of around 23 minutes with direct sun exposure, so be sure to apply sunscreen and wear protective clothing. Tomorrow holds the same UV index of 6.
