A look at the Northeast radar reveals a dynamic weather picture today. Heavy bands of rain are sweeping up the Atlantic coast, bringing substantial precipitation from New York City northward through Boston. The rain intensity varies, with some areas experiencing pockets of heavier showers. Inland areas like Albany are encountering mixed precipitation, transitioning into snowfall as we move further upstate. Scranton is under cloud cover but will see precipitation shortly. The western parts, including Buffalo and Pittsburgh, remain largely clear, providing a respite from the wet conditions creeping eastward. Keep an eye out in Syracuse where the snowfall is more persistent, creating a wintry backdrop for the day.
“Tonight in New York City, temperatures will gradually decrease from 45 degrees at 8 PM to 41 degrees by midnight. Winds will come from the north-northwest at about 10 miles per hour. Expect partly cloudy skies with a brief interlude of mostly cloudy conditions around 10 PM, maintaining a crisp yet calm evening atmosphere.”
Expect chilly weather in the Northeast overnight. New York City drops to a brisk 43 degrees. Boston sees a colder night at 37 degrees. Albany will experience near-freezing conditions at 34 degrees. Syracuse is also set for a chilly 43 degrees, while Scranton cools down to 39 degrees. Buffalo registers a low of 46, and Burlington prepares for 34 degrees, just above freezing. Washington, D.C., isn’t spared, expecting a low of 42 degrees, while Pittsburgh remains slightly warmer at 47.
“For the Northeast region tomorrow, expect a mix of spring warmth and cooler coastal conditions. New York City will see highs around 61 degrees. In Philadelphia, temperatures will reach 64 degrees. Washington, D.C. can anticipate 66 degrees as well, making it a warm day for the mid-Atlantic. Buffalo sees cooler temperatures at a high of 57 degrees, and Boston will experience a chillier 51 degrees along the coast. These varying temperatures are influenced by a passing frontal system, leading to a diverse temperature spread across the region.”
“An active weather pattern intensifies over the Northeast with a powerful cold front pushing through. Expect severe thunderstorms and periods of heavy rain starting late tonight into Tuesday, particularly impacting coastal areas from New York to Boston. Wind gusts may reach up to 60 mph, posing hazards such as downed trees and power lines. Temperatures will see a sharp drop post-frontal passage, bringing cooler weather. Watch out for potential flooding with rain totals potentially exceeding 2 inches in isolated spots. Stay cautious and prepared for weather changes as conditions evolve over the next 48 hours.”
In New York City, the UV index on Monday is low at 2, so no significant burn risk today due to cloud cover keeping those UV rays at bay. However, Tuesday brings a moderate UV index of 5, with a burn time of 27 minutes. If you’re heading out, remember to wear sunscreen and take breaks in the shade!
For the 7-day forecast in New York City: Monday: Partly cloudy conditions with cooling this afternoon and a low of 36. Tuesday: Clear skies expected, with temperatures reaching up to 59 degrees and dropping to 43 at night. Wednesday: Cloudy throughout the day, looking at a high of 63 degrees and an evening low of 43.
