Northeast radar images tell quite the dynamic story today! Starting in the north, Portland is under cloud cover with scattered rain showers. Boston is seeing some light rainfall, while more organized rain bands stretch westward through Albany into Syracuse. Rain showers are impacting the New York City area, with steady precipitation gradually moving eastward.
Farther west, places like Buffalo are experiencing heavier rains, bringing more wet weather across the region. Eyeing the southern areas, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., remain quite dry under partly cloudy skies, offering a more pleasant start. However, keep an eye on the skies over Scranton, as the rain might move in as the day unfolds.
New York City sees afternoon temperatures beginning at 66 degrees with a south wind at 8 miles per hour. Conditions are cloudy initially, but isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop around 5 PM as temperatures decrease to 63 degrees. Thunderstorms are likely to continue through 7 PM with further cooling to 60 degrees.
Let’s take a look at today’s high temperatures across the Northeast.
In New York City, expect a pleasant high of 70 degrees, while Albany reaches 70 as well. Moving over to Pennsylvania, Scranton hits 72 degrees, providing a nice day for outdoor activities. Philadelphia is looking warm today with a high of 76 degrees.
To the north, Syracuse is slightly cooler at 67 degrees, and Buffalo lags behind with a high of just 54 degrees. Further east, Boston will see a comfortable high of 64 degrees, while Portland stays on the cooler side at 53 degrees.
Tonight in the Northeast, expect deep chills as the region braces for a significant drop in temperatures. In Syracuse, it will be a crisp 26 degrees, while Albany will also see lows hit 26. Scranton is forecasting a low of 28 degrees, and New York City is expected to rest at 36 degrees. Boston will feel the cold with a low of 30 degrees. Further north in Burlington, temperatures are expected to plummet to 23 degrees, and Portland will be slightly warmer at 25. Pittsburgh rounds out the forecast with a milder low of 39 degrees.
High temperatures across the Northeast region for tomorrow are looking varied as we transition into April.
Philadelphia have 55 degrees. Scranton is set to see a cooler high of 45 degrees. Moving to the western part of the state, Pittsburgh will reach 52 degrees.
Farther north, Buffalo and Syracuse are struggling with lower readings, both forecasted to hit only 39 degrees, significantly below the seasonal norms. Boston will enjoy slightly milder weather with temperatures reaching 50 degrees, while Portland, Maine gets to 47 degrees.
Expect a rapidly changing weather scenario over the Northeast as a strong line of storms moves eastward. For Monday into Tuesday, a cold front brings widespread rain with embedded thunderstorms from Philadelphia to New York City, intensifying farther northeast. Winds could reach strong gusts, so keep alert for possible storm warnings. Temperatures will dip post-frontal passage but remain above freezing. Areas from Albany to Boston will experience heavy rainfall by Tuesday.
The UV index in New York City will be low on Monday at a level of 3, so no significant burn time is expected as cloud cover will limit sun exposure. For Tuesday, the index steps up to a level of 6, with an estimated burn time of about 23 minutes in direct sunlight.
