NYC starts sunny with temperatures gently rising, but don’t be misled; a lineup of weather changes is set to sweep across the region. From severe weather pockets in Buffalo moving toward Syracuse, to diverse conditions around Scranton, Philadelphia, and not forgetting a wet spell hitting Albany as the precipitation moves northeast. Cooler nights are ahead even as some cities warm up to spring. Plus, watch out for upcoming rain showers dragging from Albany to Boston.
The Northeast regional radar is lighting up with activity today. A line of storms is sweeping through New York, with Buffalo experiencing pockets of severe weather moving toward Syracuse. Albany is seeing rain showers as the precipitation track heads northeast. Scranton and New York City are under persistent light rain while Philadelphia experiences a clearing trend. The northern part of the region, including Portland, is mostly clear, though cloud cover is increasing ahead of the rain descending from the north.
Temperatures in New York City start at a pleasant 64 degrees at 8 a.m. with sunny skies. By 10 a.m., expect a transition to partly cloudy conditions, with temperatures rising to 68 degrees and a west wind at 10 miles per hour. By noon, temperatures reach 70 degrees with mostly cloudy skies and a west-northwest breeze at 11 miles per hour.
Expect warm temperatures across the Northeast tomorrow, New York City is forecasted to reach 74 degrees, while Philadelphia also follows suit at 74 degrees. Boston will see a pleasant high of 71 degrees, and Pittsburgh will warm up to 68 degrees. Scranton is expected to hit 64 degrees, and Buffalo will be cooler at just 58 degrees.
Expect rain showers to move across the Northeast, reaching from Albany to Boston by Saturday morning. Scattered thunderstorms may develop, particularly affecting areas around Syracuse and Albany. Cooler temperatures will follow with a noticeable drop after the passage of this system. Keep an umbrella handy, as the showers are likely to linger into the evening. Be cautious on the roads, as rain can make travel slippery.
The UV index in New York City today will be high at 8, indicating a burn time of about 17 minutes under direct sunlight. On Sunday, the index drops slightly to 7, with a burn time of approximately 20 minutes.
