Widespread rain is moving into New England, with areas such as Syracuse and Albany under significant precipitation. The rain extends toward Boston, Scranton and the surrounding areas in Pennsylvania are also experiencing hit or miss light rain showers, while Buffalo sees clearing skies. Portland currently has rain. Washington, D.C., remains mostly dry with clear conditions prevailing. New York City can expect mostly cloudy skies this afternoon with temperatures holding steady at 64 degrees. Winds are coming from the northwest at 10 miles per hour, providing a gentle breeze. As we move into the evening, clouds will start to break, leading to partly cloudy skies by 8 PM, with temperatures slightly cooler at 61 degrees and lighter winds from the northwest at 7 miles per hour. This afternoon, New York City warms up to a comfortable 65 degrees, while Philadelphia the same. Scranton is a bit cooler at 56 degrees, and farther north in Syracuse, expect a cool 53. Buffalo is even reaching for 56 degrees. Over in Boston, temperatures climb to 59, while Portland stays on the cool side at 53 degrees. Tonight Albany will cool to 49 degrees, while Syracuse edges down to 48. Expect a low of 47 in Buffalo and 46 in both Scranton and Portland. Boston will also register a chilly 49 degrees, and Philadelphia will settle at a mild 54. Washington, D.C. will round out the night at 56 degrees. Tomorrow New York City will warm up to near 70 degrees, while Philadelphia pushes up to 71 degrees. Scranton and Pittsburgh are expected to see highs of 64 and 68 degrees, respectively. Buffalo and Portland are cooler, with highs of 59 degrees. These temperatures are indicative of a seasonal warm-up as we head into the final days of May. While temperatures are more mild, a weak front pushes through the Northeast early tomorrow, bringing showers primarily to upstate New York and northern New England. While Philadelphia and New York City stay mostly dry, Boston sees intermittent rain by midday, tapering off by the evening. Syracuse should prepare for rainfall. By late evening, Portland experiences clearing skies as the front exits, ushering in breezy conditions and cooler, drier air. The UV index in New York City will be moderate today, reaching a value of 6, with a burn time of approximately 23 minutes in direct sunlight. By Sunday, the index decreases slightly to 5, with an expected burn time of 27 minutes.
