Hello, New York! 🏙️ Amy Freeze here with your essential guide to NYC’s weather for the week. As we navigate a mix of sunny skies and potential storms, here’s what to expect: partly cloudy to foggy evenings, and the chance of severe weather. Get all the details on what these changes mean for your plans and how to stay safe during various weather fronts.
A line of strong storms is sweeping from the Northwest down through New York, stretching from Buffalo towards Syracuse, ushering in heavy rain and potential severe weather. Pittsburgh and the western parts of Pennsylvania are experiencing heavy rain showers, while Scranton is on the edge of this weather system, preparing for showers. Albany and areas northward are still under clear conditions but should anticipate increased cloud cover as the storm progresses eastward. Boston and New York City remain dry for now, with clouds gradually moving in. Portland is enjoying a clear start to the day, providing a temporary break from any precipitation.
In New York City this evening, temperatures will hold steady at 66 degrees with an east-southeast wind of 4 miles per hour. Expect cloudy conditions initially, transitioning to fog as the night progresses. By 11 PM, fog will become more prevalent, continuing into the early morning hours.
Tonight expect 53 degrees in Buffalo and Syracuse. Scranton will see a low of 54, while Philadelphia and New York City are forecasted to stay a bit warmer, both around 62 degrees. Boston will cool down to 58, and Portland will be the chilliest at 52 degrees.
Tomorrow’s high temperatures in the Northeast are reaching well above average for this time of year. Philadelphia is set to soar to 86 degrees, while Washington, D.C. expects a high of 89. New York will enjoy temperatures of 83 degrees, and Syracuse hits a pleasant 75. In contrast, Portland is on the cooler side at just 56 degrees.
A frontal passage in the Northeast tomorrow will bring showers and thunderstorms, particularly impacting areas from Albany to Boston. Expect potential severe weather with heavy downpours and gusty winds. Temperatures will remain warm ahead of the front, with a notable cooldown by evening as it moves east. Buffalo and Syracuse should watch for showers early, with clearing by afternoon. Increased wind speeds could affect travel, so plan accordingly.
Friday’s UV index in NYC is moderate at 5, with a burn time of 27 minutes under partly cloudy skies. As we move into Saturday, expect the UV index to rise to 8, marking it as very high. The burn time will reduce to just 17 minutes, so it’s essential to apply sunscreen and wear a hat if you will be outdoors. Enjoy the sun wisely!
