Hello NYC residents and visitors! Meteorologist Amy Freeze here with a detailed week-long weather forecast for our beloved Northeast. Starting off with partly cloudy skies, we’ll see a mix of rain and snow moving through different regions. Temperatures will vary, with some areas enjoying mild temperatures while others brace for cooler days. Don’t miss the specifics of each day, from potential showers to sunny breaks. For a safer and more enjoyable week, keep an eye on our updates and plan accordingly! On the Regional Radar, we’re observing some dynamic weather patterns across the Northeast region. A line of precipitation, consisting primarily of rain with some snow, is moving eastward through the Great Lakes area, impacting Buffalo with a mix of snow and rain. This system extends toward central New York, where Syracuse is seeing light snow flurries. Conditions remain clear and dry over the eastern seaboard from New York City down to Washington, D.C. Farther north, Boston and Portland are also enjoying clear skies, though clouds may increase later in the day ahead of the approaching system. To the west, Albany is teetering on the edge of this weather front, with clouds starting to build. It’s a calm, dry start for areas like Scranton and Philadelphia, where skies are mostly clear.
This afternoon in New York City, temperatures are expected to remain in the 40s, starting at 46 degrees at 3 PM and gradually decreasing to 43 degrees by 7 PM. Winds will blow from the east-southeast around 10 to 11 miles per hour. The sky will be mostly cloudy during the earlier hours, with a chance of a few showers moving in as we progress into the evening.
In Pittsburgh, it’s feeling pleasant as we reach a high of 66 degrees. Moving east, Scranton sees a temperature of 49, while New York City remains a bit cooler at 47 degrees. Philadelphia is sitting comfortably at 55 degrees, making it one of the warmer spots today. Meanwhile, in the northern tier, Syracuse registers at 47 degrees, and Buffalo is only slightly cooler at 46. The coastal areas are experiencing a noticeable chill, with Boston at 41 degrees and Portland even cooler at just 38 degrees. This creates a stark temperature contrast, particularly between the western and eastern parts of the region.
In Buffalo, expect a low of 38 degrees, while Syracuse will see temperatures dip to 42. Scranton is forecast to be a bit cooler at 49 degrees. Folks in Philadelphia can look forward to a mild 60 degrees. Boston isn’t too far behind with a low of 54, and Portland will experience a cooler night at 44.
Tomorrow’s high temperatures in the Northeast are expected to deliver a mix of above-average warmth, especially in southern areas. Philadelphia leads the charge with a high of 76 degrees, while Pittsburgh reaches a pleasant 71 degrees. Scranton will also see a high of 71 degrees. Both Albany and New York City are forecasted to hit 68 and 71 degrees, respectively. Upstate, Syracuse is expected to enjoy a high of 70 degrees, reflecting a mild trend across the region. Farther north, Buffalo will experience a cooler day at 60 degrees, while Boston is on the lower end with a high of 62 degrees. In contrast, Portland will be much chillier, only reaching 47 degrees.
For the Northeast forecast, as we head into tomorrow, expect a mix of rain and snow impacting areas from Buffalo to Boston. By early morning, rain transitions to snow in the higher elevations of New York and Western Massachusetts. Watch out for potentially slick travel conditions as temperatures drop. In the late afternoon, Portland and northern New England will see persistent snow showers, with accumulating snow likely. Farther south, from New York City to Philadelphia, light rain may develop by evening.
The UV index in New York City will be moderate on Wednesday, reaching a level of 6. This means a burn time of approximately 23 minutes in direct sunlight. Clouds and rain on Thursday will significantly reduce UV exposure, with a UV index of 2.
