Greetings, New York! Meteorologist Amy Freeze here with your must-know weather insights. This week, we’re on a true weather rollercoaster, starting with serene clear skies and drifting into significant rainfall and potential localized flooding. Join me in unpacking the weather trends and tips on staying prepared for northeastern weather whims.
A rain system is making its way into the Northeast region, currently impacting areas in the vicinity of Pittsburgh with steady precipitation and moving towards Washington. Clear conditions prevail farther east around Philadelphia and New York, but expect clouds to increase throughout the day. Syracuse and Albany are enjoying dry weather for now, with cloud cover likely thickening. Boston remains clear, offering a great start to the day, but keep an eye on western movements.
Temperatures in New York City will gradually decrease from 66 degrees at 9 PM to 63 degrees by 1 AM. Expect cloudy skies throughout the evening, providing a consistent overcast ambiance. Winds will shift slightly from the south at 4 mph at 9 PM to a calm state by 1 AM.
Tonight Boston will experience a low of 57 degrees, while New York is expected to cool down to 59. Scranton is forecasted to see a low of 55 degrees. Pittsburgh will be slightly cooler at 57, and Albany hits 56. Expect those temperatures to feel even colder with the wind chill in some areas.
Tomorrow Boston and Albany are expected to reach 76 degrees, while New York City will see a high of 65. Scranton and Philadelphia will be cooler, both around 60 degrees. Buffalo will register at 62 degrees, slightly below average for this time of year.
A weather system will bring rain across the Northeast, starting tomorrow morning. Expect periods of heavy precipitation from Washington D.C. to Philadelphia, with over an inch of rain possible in these areas. Be alert for potential localized flooding, especially in urban zones. By the afternoon, rain will extend towards New York and Boston, accompanied by gusty winds as a cold front passes through. Behind the front, cool and dry air will settle in, offering clearer skies by Thursday morning.
The UV index in New York City will be at a high of 7 on Tuesday, with a burn time of about 20 minutes if you’re in direct sunlight. Be sure to apply sunscreen and wear a hat for protection. On Wednesday, the index drops to a moderate 4.
