A dynamic weather pattern is unfolding across the Northeast today, impacting various cities with precipitation and cloud cover. Over western New York, including Buffalo, we observe a mixture of rain and snow as a system moves through, bringing the possibility of slick roads and visibility issues. Syracuse and Albany are also under mixed precipitation, with snowflakes blending into the rain, creating challenging travel conditions. As we head farther east, Boston is currently experiencing light rain, with the moisture extending into parts of southern Maine, including Portland, where rain is likely to continue throughout the day. New York City and Philadelphia are seeing steady rain showers, which may lead to localized pooling on roadways. Farther south along the I-95 corridor, clouds dominate the skies over Washington, D.C., although rain is expected to remain light, providing a gloomy but manageable day. The Mid-Atlantic feels the effects of this system with overcast conditions extending towards Scranton, where residents can expect more rain to move in as the day progresses.
This evening in New York City, expect cloudy skies throughout. Temperatures will hold steady at 41 degrees from 9 PM to 1 AM. A northerly wind at 11 miles per hour will decrease slightly to 9 by 1 AM.
In Buffalo, expect a low of 41 degrees, while Syracuse drops to 37. Albany will see similar conditions with a low of 39 degrees. Scranton residents can anticipate a cooler night at 37 degrees. New York City will experience a low of 45, and Philadelphia is expected to cool down to 43 degrees. Boston rounds out the evening with a low of 41 degrees. It’s a brisk night ahead, especially as we head farther north.
High temperatures for tomorrow across the Northeast indicate a mix of warmth and cooler pockets influenced by lingering cloud cover and shifts in air masses. In New York City, the high is expected to reach 59 degrees, while over in Philadelphia, temperatures will climb to 61 degrees, making it a mild day. Pittsburgh will enjoy a slightly warmer afternoon with a high of 61 degrees as well. Moving farther north, Scranton and Syracuse will see highs around 55 degrees, with Buffalo a touch cooler at just 52 degrees. Farther up the coast, Boston is looking at a high of only 46 degrees, signaling a notable dip compared to the southern areas. Portland will struggle to reach 43 degrees, influenced by a cooler maritime flow.
A changing weather pattern is moving into the Northeast as a low-pressure system tracks through. Expect widespread rain from Washington D.C. to New York City, with potential snow mixing in farther north, especially in Albany and Syracuse. On Saturday, as the system exits, look for gusty winds and dropping temperatures from Buffalo to Boston. The Storm Prediction Center’s outlook suggests a slight risk of severe weather in some areas. Stay weather aware for potentially disruptive conditions, such as wet roads and localized flooding. Plan for clear skies late in the weekend.
New York City’s UV index on Saturday is a low 1, meaning there’s minimal risk of sunburn. Expect overcast skies and potential rain, which keeps the harmful rays at bay. However, Sunday sees a moderate UV index of 4.
For the 7-day forecast in New York City: Saturday: Expect cloudy skies with showers and a high of 41 degrees, dipping to a low of 40. Sunday: Partly cloudy with a warmer high of 58 degrees, temperatures falling to 40 overnight. Monday: Showers return with a high of 65 degrees and a low of 51 degrees.
