For the Northeast region, the regional radar reveals a fascinating weather pattern today! We’ve got a band of rain stretching from Pittsburgh into Buffalo, pushing northward. Syracuse is now experiencing rain showers, and this line extends eastward, nudging closer to Albany. As we track these conditions, places like Scranton, New York, and Philadelphia are currently dry, but it’s a different story farther west. Boston and Portland are enjoying clear skies, making for a lovely, more mild day. Keep an eye out, as this rain move eastward could bring a change in conditions for those areas later.
This evening in New York City, prepare for a rainy night with consistent temperatures hovering around 49 to 50 degrees. Winds will shift east-southeast at 4 miles per hour initially, moving northeast, then north-northwest steadily throughout the evening. Keep your umbrella handy as rain showers will persist, adding a cool, breezy feel to the late-night hours.
In the Northeast, temperatures are taking a dip as a cold front moves through. Expect a chilly 30 degrees in Albany and a brisk 31 in Burlington. Syracuse is forecasted to see lows of 36, while Scranton will be slightly cooler at 35. New York City will experience a low of 39 degrees. Philadelphia isn’t escaping the chill either, with a forecast low of 37. Boston rounds out the region with a low of 35 degrees. Overall, get ready for a cold night ahead!
Tomorrow in the Northeast, temperatures will largely trend above average, with several cities enjoying mild days.
In Philadelphia, expect a high of 55 degrees, while New York City warms up to 54 degrees. Scranton will see a milder afternoon at 48 degrees. Upstate, Syracuse reaches a high of 45 degrees, and Buffalo will be cooler at 41 degrees.
Boston’s forecast indicates a high peak of 47 degrees, while Portland, Maine, will come in at 42 degrees. Overall, a wave of warmer air is moving in, leading to more pleasant conditions across much of the region.
“Expect a rainy day across the Northeast tomorrow as a robust frontal system moves through the region. Heavy rain and possible thunderstorms are likely, especially from Philadelphia to New York. This system could bring over an inch of rain, leading to potential flooding in low-lying areas. The rain begins early morning in areas like Scranton and progresses eastward throughout the day, wrapping up by Thursday evening. Cooler air follows the frontal passage, bringing breezy conditions and clearing skies, with temperatures turning more mild into Friday.”
The UV index in New York City is quite low today with a value of 2, thanks to cloud cover, reducing the risk of sunburn significantly. Tomorrow, however, the UV index is expected to rise to a moderate level of 5. In direct sunlight, this increases the risk of sunburn with a burn time of approximately 27 minutes. Remember to apply sunscreen and wear protective clothing if you’re planning to be outdoors.
