The Northeast is currently experiencing a mix of weather conditions, with heavy rain and storms impacting the region. Boston is under significant rainfall with severe weather at its crest, extending into New York City with persistent rain showers. Farther west, Pittsburgh is also encountering rain, while Scranton and Philadelphia see lighter precipitation. Albany is receiving moderate rain, and the heavier bands extend towards Portland.
For this evening in New York City, expect a cool and wet scenario. Temperatures will hold steady at 51 degrees until 11 PM, dipping slightly to 50 degrees by 1 AM. Light rain is forecasted initially, transitioning to showers as the evening progresses. Winds will be from the north, starting at 6 mph and decreasing to 4 mph by the early morning hours.
Low temperatures tonight in New York City will dip to 52 degrees, while Philadelphia is forecast to drop to 50. Scranton and Pittsburgh are looking at 45 degrees, presenting a chilly night ahead. Buffalo and Albany are both expected to see lows around 44, with Boston a touch cooler at 47.
High temperatures for the Northeast tomorrow will remain below average as cool air continues to dominate the region. Philadelphia will see a high of 56 degrees, while New York and Boston will lag behind at 54 and 50 degrees, respectively. Scranton is forecasted to reach 51 degrees, and Syracuse will experience a chilly 51 as well. Buffalo will be slightly warmer at 56 degrees, but overall, temperatures will reflect a cool trend, influenced by persistent cloud cover. The expected highs in cities like Albany and Portland are 50 degrees, emphasizing the unseasonably cool conditions across the region.
A slow-moving system will drench parts of the Northeast, with heavy rain expected Thursday morning from Scranton to Boston, raising the risk for localized flooding. The rain will ease into scattered showers by midday, especially from Albany to New York City. Cooler temperatures will follow the rainfall, dropping to more seasonable levels. Winds are picking up, but the strongest gusts will diminish as the day progresses.
The UV index in NYC for today, Thursday, is low at 2, with cloud cover and rain reducing any sun exposure risks. As we move into Friday, the index will rise to a moderate level of 4, with a burn time of about 35 minutes in direct sunlight.
