Heavy rain is impacting areas around Buffalo, with the showers extending towards Syracuse and reaching Albany. As the rain moves, Scranton and Philadelphia will notice rainfall picking up, while Pittsburgh is already experiencing these conditions. Meanwhile, Boston and the coastal areas of New York are under a cloud canopy but are staying dry at the moment. The rain is expected to approach these areas later. Washington and regions southward are currently seeing clearer conditions with scattered clouds. Keep your umbrellas handy, especially if you’re in the path from Pittsburgh to New York, as the rain continues its journey eastward across the region.
In New York City this afternoon, temperatures begin at 60 degrees at 3 PM, dropping to 58 degrees by 5 PM. Expect cloudy skies transitioning to showers, with rain picking up at 7 PM. Winds are coming from the south at 14 to 15 miles per hour, adding a breezy feel to the damp conditions.
Let’s look at the high temperatures across the Northeast today. In Boston, we’re seeing a high of 65 degrees, while in Providence, it’s a bit cooler at 64. New York is coming in with a high of 62, and just to the south, Philadelphia is warmer at 68 degrees. Heading farther west, Pittsburgh reaches 68 as well, while Syracuse enjoys a pleasant 67 degrees. We’re experiencing some temperature contrasts, especially with Portland staying cool at just 52 degrees. Overall, it’s a mild March day for many in the Northeast!
The Northeast is preparing for a significant drop in temperatures. Expect a chilly 28 degrees in Syracuse and Scranton. In contrast, Boston isn’t too far behind at 39 degrees.
High temperatures for tomorrow in the Northeast are expected to trend above average as warmer air moves into the region. New York City will see a pleasant high of 58 degrees. Philadelphia is forecasted to reach 57 degrees. Farther north, Boston is looking at a high of 57 as well, while Albany is expected to hit 53 degrees. Scranton will experience cooler conditions with a high of 50 degrees. Pittsburgh will be on the chilly side with a high of 44 degrees. Overall, the warming trend will bring relief from recent colder temperatures, although areas further north will still feel the effects of lingering cool air.
“Tomorrow, the Northeast braces for an active weather day as a strong line of showers and storms, currently moving through Pennsylvania and New York, sweeps towards New England. This system brings the potential for heavy downpours and gusty winds from morning through late evening across areas including New York City, Boston, and Albany. Expect minor flooding in prone areas due to persistent rainfall. Temperatures hold steady in the upper 40s to mid-50s. Behind this front, conditions calm as high pressure builds, promising clearer skies by Friday into the weekend.”
The UV index in NYC remains low with a value of 2 for both Sunday and Monday. Due to the persistent cloud cover and chance of rain, the sun’s harmful rays are significantly reduced. This means minimal risk of sunburn, allowing you to plan your outdoor activities with less concern about UV exposure.
