This week in New York City is a perfect example of typical Northeast spring weather—unpredictable, but always interesting! Meteorologist Amy Freeze provides insights on the daily weather changes, from partly cloudy skies and rising temperatures to sudden showers and cooler nights. Get tips on how to dress for the weather and make the most of your days, regardless of rain or shine.
Over the Northeast, there’s a band of rain stretching from Scranton to Boston, moving eastward. Philadelphia and New York are experiencing light showers, contributing to a wet morning rush hour. Meanwhile, in Buffalo, conditions remain relatively calm with no active precipitation, providing a respite from the dampness seen to the east. Albany and Syracuse are seeing overcast skies, which may lead to attempted clearing later in the day, while Pittsburgh enjoys clearer skies with no immediate threat of precipitation. As the system progresses, Washington may also expect an increase in cloud cover but remains dry for now.
For tomorrow morning in New York City, expect a sunny start to the day. Temperatures will rise from 44 degrees at 7 AM to 56 degrees by 11 AM. Wind conditions remain calm throughout the morning, providing a clear and pleasant atmosphere as you begin your activities.
Tomorrow’s high temperatures in the Northeast are looking quite warm for this time of year, with several locations seeing readings above average. In Pittsburgh, we’re expecting a high of 79 degrees which is well above the seasonal norm. Syracuse will enjoy a pleasant 75 degrees, while Scranton also reaches 71 degrees. New York City will see a high of 63 degrees, which is slightly below the average but still comfortable. Philadelphia is set to hit 72 degrees, and just south, Washington D.C. temperatures will climb to 75 degrees. To the north, Boston’s high will be cooler at 53 degrees, and Portland will only reach 48 degrees. This warm pattern is largely due to a broad high-pressure system bringing unseasonably mild air into the region. Enjoy the warmth!
“A strong cold front moves through the Northeast bringing cooler temperatures and significant weather changes. Expect scattered rain showers throughout the day, with the potential for thunderstorms developing in the afternoon, particularly from New York to Boston. The heaviest rainfall will occur during the evening, making for a wet commute. By late Tuesday, conditions begin to clear, but temperatures will drop, resulting in a chillier start on Wednesday morning. Keep your umbrella handy, and stay informed on any weather advisories.”
New York City will experience a UV index of 6 on Tuesday, indicating a moderately strong sun with a burn time of approximately 23 minutes. Looking ahead to Wednesday, the UV index will be at 5, so sunscreen should still be your go-to as the burn time will be around 30 minutes. Keep your sunblock handy and enjoy the city safely under the sun!
