Cloud cover and precipitation are affecting parts of the Southwest as we glance at our regional radar. Southeast California is experiencing light rain moving inland, extending towards Arizona. This system is providing some much-needed rainfall relief to the desert area. Moving north, Reno is under cloudy skies, but rain hasn’t reached the ground just yet.
Salt Lake City and Cedar City are experiencing clear conditions. Down south, Los Angeles and San Diego also enjoy more mild conditions with minimal cloud cover.
This afternoon in Phoenix, temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s, peaking at 93 degrees by 6 PM. Winds will be coming from the south at 6 miles per hour, shifting to the south-southeast. The sky will remain mostly cloudy. By evening, winds will shift to a west-southwest direction at 7 miles per hour.
Let’s take a look at today’s high temperatures across the Southwest.
In Arizona, Phoenix is feeling the heat with a high of 95 degrees, while Flagstaff offers a much cooler contrast at 70 degrees. Moving over to Nevada, Las Vegas will see a warm 88 degrees, while Ely enjoys a mild day at 66 degrees.
In California, Los Angeles is in for a comfortable 64 degrees, while Bakersfield tops out at a scorching 90 degrees. Over in Fresno, expect a sunny 88 degrees.
And across the Nevada border, Cedar City, Utah, has a pleasant high of 70 degrees. It’s a mix of warm and comfortable temperatures throughout the region today!
Expect a chilly 36 degrees in Ely tonight. Flagstaff will also be cold, starting at 32 degrees. Las Vegas will rest at a mild 64 degrees, while Phoenix enjoys a warmer 64 as well. Cedar City sees a low of 45 degrees, and Bakersfield will be slightly cooler with a low of 55. San Francisco rounds out the night at 52 degrees.
Tomorrow’s high temperatures in the Southwest are shaping up to be quite warm, with many areas experiencing above-average readings.
In Southern California, Los Angeles is expected to reach 63 degrees, while farther inland, Bakersfield will be warmer at 84 degrees. San Diego is slated for a high of 64 degrees.
As we move into Nevada, Las Vegas is set to sizzle with highs around 88 degrees, a noticeable jump above average for this time of year. Ely will see a high of 66 degrees, somewhat cooler than its neighboring areas.
In Arizona, Phoenix will experience a hot day with temperatures soaring to 93 degrees, indicating a continued warming trend. Flagstaff will be cooler at 66 degrees, maintaining mild conditions in the higher elevations.
On the Southwest futurecast, clear and sunny skies are expected to dominate the desert southwest, offering a dry spell. However, it’s a different story along the coast. From Tuesday into Wednesday, Northern California anticipates several rounds of valley rain. Southern California, particularly the San Bernardino Valley, will experience another bout of showers with heavy rainfall, leading to slick and tricky driving conditions over mountain passes.
The UV index in Phoenix on Monday will reach 8, with a burn time of approximately 17 minutes under direct sunlight. On Tuesday, it increases to 9, where you can expect a burn time of just 15 minutes.
