On the Regional Radar, rain showers are impacting the northern coast of California, from Redding down towards San Francisco. In southern Utah, Cedar City is experiencing snow, while rain is also moving into nearby areas. The desert areas of Arizona, including Phoenix and Las Vegas, stay dry with clear skies, although cooler temperatures may prevail in Flagstaff.
In Salt Lake City this afternoon, temperatures rise to 98 degrees by 6 PM, with mostly cloudy skies transitioning to partly cloudy. Winds remain steady from the south-southwest, blowing at 13 to 9 miles per hour. As the evening approaches, some clearing occurs, but mostly cloudy conditions persist with temperatures around 96 degrees.
This afternoon in the Southwest, we’re seeing some intense temperatures. Phoenix is a scorching 117 degrees, while Las Vegas isn’t far behind at 112. Bakersfield hits 99 degrees, contrasting sharply with San Diego’s cooler 84. Up north, Reno sits at 88 degrees, while Flagstaff remains mild at 90. Expect a mix of sun and heat, with notable warmth in the desert areas.
Tonight, low temperatures in the Southwest will be noticeably cooler. Los Angeles will see a low of 64 degrees, with San Diego matching that temperature. Inland, Fresno will drop to 71 degrees, while Las Vegas cools down to 81. Flagstaff is expected to hit a brisk 56 degrees, indicating a significant drop as colder air moves in.
Tomorrow in the Southwest, Las Vegas will see a scorching high of 111 degrees, well above average for this time of year. Phoenix isn’t far behind, expecting a blistering 114 degrees, driven by strong high-pressure systems settling over the region. In California, Bakersfield and Fresno will both reach 102 degrees, maintaining the trend of significantly elevated temperatures. Los Angeles will be warmer, topping out at 89 degrees, while San Diego enjoys a milder 83. Over in San Francisco, cooler marine influence keeps temperatures down to 70 degrees.
A dry and warm pattern dominates the Southwest tomorrow, with abundant sunshine and temperatures climbing into the high 90s in the deserts, such as Phoenix and Las Vegas. A weak disturbance near the California coast brings light showers to parts of Northern California, especially around Eureka. Coastal areas may experience morning clouds but will clear up by afternoon, giving way to sunny skies. In the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada, spotty afternoon storms are possible due to daytime heating, but severe weather is not anticipated.
The UV index in Salt Lake City will be very high on Wednesday and Thursday, with a level of 9, indicating a sunburn could happen in just 15 minutes.
