The Southwest is experiencing a mix of conditions on the Regional Radar today. Clear skies dominate much of California, from Los Angeles down to San Diego, where it’s pleasantly mild. However, up north in the higher elevations near Ely, Nevada, there is some light snow falling, bringing that winter chill we know. Cedar City is also seeing some snow, possibly affecting travel in the area.
Meanwhile, a stronger system is impacting the central Rockies. Salt Lake City is in the clear right now, but farther eastward, a significant band of snow stretches across Utah into Flagstaff, Arizona, creating potential travel delays and hazardous conditions. Reno is experiencing calm conditions, with no precipitation noted.
The San Francisco area remains dry, along with Fresno and Bakersfield, providing a rather comfortable setting. It’s a good day for outdoor activities across most of the state, except for those high-altitude areas experiencing snow.
Salt Lake City will enjoy sunny skies this afternoon. Temperatures will rise from 50 degrees at 4 PM to 52 degrees as the evening approaches. Northwest winds will remain steady at 11 mph giving a gentle hint of coolness to the sunny afternoon. Perfect for outdoor activities.

A high-pressure system keeps the Southwest mostly sunny and warm, especially in the desert regions. However, a low-pressure system approaches the coast bringing a round of rain to Northern California and potentially impacting Southern California with scattered showers. Watch for slick roads and minor flooding through Wednesday. Arizona and New Mexico remain dry, experiencing temperatures in the 80s.
The UV index for Salt Lake City this weekend is expected to be 6 on both Saturday and Sunday.
