This month’s forecast highlights temperatures soaring into the high 100s in some parts of the Southwest, while coastal areas enjoy more moderate weather. Ely remains dry, but nearby Salt Lake City can expect similar clouds moving in. Along the California coast, from Redding to San Francisco, conditions remain dry.
This afternoon in Salt Lake City, temperatures will rise to 86 degrees at 4 PM, reaching 88 degrees by 6 PM and maintaining at 88 degrees through 8 PM. The sunny skies are complemented by a consistent wind blowing from the west-northwest at 10 miles per hour.
This afternoon, temperatures are scorching in the Southwest. Phoenix and Redding lead the way with highs reaching 107 degrees. Las Vegas will feel the heat with a high of 106, while Bakersfield isn’t far behind at 99. Meanwhile, coastal temperatures are much more moderate; San Diego will see a high of 72 and Los Angeles will warm up to 73. Flagstaff gets a comfortable high of 82 degrees today.
Tonight, Flagstaff will dip to a brisk 49 degrees, while Las Vegas will remain warmer at 56. Phoenix is expected to cool down to a comfortable 80. In California, San Francisco will see a low of 54, with Fresno dropping to 67.
Tomorrow in Phoenix, expect a scorching high of 108 degrees. Las Vegas will also sizzle, reaching 106 degrees, while Bakersfield warms up to 102. In Fresno, temperatures will hit a steamy 100 degrees, above the typical June averages for the area. Los Angeles remains relatively cooler at 75 degrees, but still higher than usual for this time of year. Coastal areas like San Francisco will see a mild 61 degrees, providing a stark contrast to the inland heat.
A ridge of high pressure will keep the Southwest mainly dry and warm, with temperatures rising into the mid-90s across the deserts. However, an upper-level disturbance will bring isolated thunderstorms, particularly over the mountains of Arizona and New Mexico. By late afternoon tomorrow, a cold front will approach from the northwest, potentially sparking more widespread showers and thunderstorms in the Four Corners region. Gusty winds and localized flooding could occur with these storms. Cooler air behind the front will lead to a dip in temperatures, dropping by about 10 degrees by Wednesday.
