It’s quiet across the intermountain west to kick off the holiday weekend but there will be showers to dodge so heads up for wet weather at times.
Rain is sweeping across the Central Valley of California, with Fresno experiencing steady showers, which may provide some needed relief to the area. The weather remains dry and relatively clear in Southern California, with Los Angeles and San Diego enjoying sunny breaks.
In Salt Lake City, this evening begins with mostly cloudy skies at 9 PM, as temperatures sit at 77 degrees with a gentle north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. By 11 PM, skies will become partly cloudy with temperatures cooling to 72 degrees, accompanied by a north-northeast wind at 6 mph. As we reach 1 AM, expect temperatures to continue their gentle decline to 67 degrees under partly cloudy skies, with an east wind blowing at 5 mph.
Tonight Las Vegas will cool down to 48 degrees, while Flagstaff will experience a chilly 37. Down in Los Angeles, expect a low of 57 degrees, and further south in San Diego, temperatures will rest at 57 as well. Bakersfield will see 59 degrees, and Fresno will be a bit warmer at 56 degrees.
High temperatures in the Southwest are forecasted to soar above average tomorrow. In Phoenix, expect a sizzling high of 98 degrees, while Las Vegas is set to reach 93 degrees. Bakersfield will experience warm conditions with a high of 87 degrees, and Fresno is also quite warm at 86 degrees. San Diego will see a mild high of 67 degrees, providing a contrast to the warmer interiors.
A weather system is moving into the Southwest, bringing increased chances of rain and thunderstorms from California through Arizona by late Friday and into Saturday. Expect coastal areas in Southern California to see moderate rainfall, which could lead to slick roads and minor flooding in low-lying areas. Heading east, Arizona will experience isolated thunderstorms, potentially with gusty winds and brief heavy downpours. As this system progresses, temperatures will drop slightly, providing a brief respite from the heat before clearing conditions return by the weekend.
